Time to get the paintwork sorted
#1

After nearly 8 years and 90,000 miles, without a doubt the paintwork on my car was looking a bit sad. Numerous stonechips, a handful of rust spots, a big scrape on the rear bumper (my fault
), plus some crazing where someone reversed in to me (and didn't leave a note) - and on a black car all those marks really show.
And I do like a nice clean shiny car, so it was all a bit depressing![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Here are a few shots of some of the issues.

So, having heard (and seen) very good things about Ryan Jones (aka prodriverules) who is based in Leominster (C&K Motors), and having had some business dealings with him in the last few months, a deal was struck. I took my car up to him during the week for him to work his paint magic on the car over the next couple of weeks. Basically he's doing a full respray after rectifying the underlying issues![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
By the end of today, much of the damage has been sorted and the panels are in primer. The shell has been rolled into the booth and masked ready for painting. The areas that have been repaired were isolated and some high build applied.
One problem was with my replaced boot lid. When I de-spoilered I bought a bootlid that had the spoiler bolt holes welded up, and it had been resprayed black before I collected it. When primer was applied to areas that had been sanded/repaired it started to pickle and react quite badly. It had to be re-sealed using cheap commercial clear coat - that will be used as a primer to flatten out any last imperfections before painting.
Here are some pictures of the work so far![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Nice job Ryan, I am sure I recognise that green work bench you have, didn't it used to be a car? ![Stick Out Tongue](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Nearly forgot, Tim where did you get your reverse vent from?

Even on a Sunday, Ryan doesn't rest ![Thumb](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif)
Today he got the primer flatted and ready with some spirit wiping and tack ragging.
Rather than remove the windscreen surround he used what sounds rather nifty - lifting tape. This is used around the windscreen rubbers and is a tape with a 5mm plastic bottom which slips under the rubber and then you pull back to 'lift' the rubber so the paint can travel under as not to have any edge and risk of peeling. Brilliant invention![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
The door handles on mine don't have rubber surrounds, so no need to remove those - much easier.
I'd mentioned to Ryan that despite (maybe because of
) my amateur attempts at detailing I'd never managed to get much in the way of flake "pop" - so Ryan decided to add a little 'wow' factor to the colour - it now has a gold pearl base which will pop really rather nicely when in the sunshine ![Norty](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/norty.gif)

Today's update ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Car was wheeled out of the booth and into the daylight. It looks superb now, and I am very happy with the result...but after a few days to harden up completely and a polish/sealer it will be epic

The panels were flatted today and painted - they, too, have come out rather well.

Would hate to think what that cost, been thinking of having a change of colour on the hatch. Think Subaru should of offered it in urban or crystal grey. Would love to have the silver painted one of those greys........

Ryan got straight back on it again today, getting the panels remounted to the car. Everything went to plan with no issue's.
True to form, always stepping above and beyond the call of duty, Ryan decided my headlights were yellow and nasty looking so sorted those out, and also tidied up the FMIC to get rid of all the blemishes it had accumulated. Note to self - must sort a black grille out!
Last job of the day was to roll her outside and wash her down ready for polishing/sealer in a couple of days time.
To say I'm delighted is the understatement of the century - the car looks stunning. Hats off to Ryan for a superb job
If it looks as good as that just in photos I cannot wait to see it for real ![Luxhello](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/luxhello.gif)

Nice pics again Tim, there are some tasty parts on your car I'll have to purloin some before it leaves Ryan's care. ![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Top job Ryan, and at least the latest pics don't have that hideous looking warthog reflection in them.![Lol1](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/lol1.gif)
It will look better than a new car.
