Default What to pay for a 300 bhp ish classic?

Hi all, I have not posted for a while but still been on here every week after selling my blob.
I seem to have saved up a bit of money and would love to own another scooby. Think I fancy a 300 ish classic as I don't want to spend to much. This would be a second car for me, third car for my household. Golf for the misses, my roadster, which I love to bits, and then a classic.
Not to sure you would like my roadie as it is a bit different and a scooby tribute, but if you want I will post a pic or 2.
I would want the best my money could get me. But a bit out of touch on what I would pay for a good one.
Budget, 3000 to 3500.
Would I get what I want for this?
Thanks for your help

I would think you'd get a nice one for 3k.
mine was 1500 but it does have some rust on the rear arches and A pillar.

came with 280 bhp - 3 port solenoid, blitz nur spec r, coiloves on the front, sti interior and strut brace, zero sports caik and resonator delete, oz super leggera wheels.

I got a very good sti type ra running 313/300 on a powerFC with a smattering of shiny/go faster bits and no rusty bits for 3k earlier this year.

I think I got an unusually tasty bargain there but 3500 should get you a decent one from the cars I was looking at on my hunt, you might have to compromise on power or bodywork though.

for 3k you should be looking for a classic sti. At 3500 youre almost into Type R money.

handling actually hasn't been that bad as it goes.

will be getting a full on geometery setup once i've put the rears i've bought on this weekend. (assuming i can find an accurate guide/how to - https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...coilovers.html )

Dunno to be honest. They were on there when i bought it.
I'm guessing either front suspension failure or a previous owner deciding they were the thing to have but not being able to afford the rears as well!

Only bought it as a bit of a cheap laugh but it turns out I actually quite like the thing!

chances are it had the classic "knocking rear coilovers" that so many people complain about.

As weekend toy i'd be looking for an RA, you should pick up a tidy one for your budget.

take a look in the for sale section.

£3500 may be pushing it but its a buyers market at the moment. I would save another £500 and go for something like this, i'm sure there may be others out there.

Your right, you won't.

"Good" ones start at around the £5k mark, not saying it's not possible to get a decent one for less, but just be very careful, if it's not been mapped since arrival then chances are it's on it's last legs, and the one in the link at 90k miles and been here for 4yrs with no mention of remap ect, is taking a chance that could prove Very expensive, been there done that.
