engine change
hi lads is there engine builders out there who do deals on engines iv got a perfectly good engine but i want a forged one someone said to me theres places that do engine swaps with cash like they have my engine and they do me a engine with cash i want to go more power and safe iv got a 99 gc8 sti

Why not just forge your current engine? Surely that will work out the same ££££ as trading your current one against a new one.
I would have thought that would be the preferred route of a builder as doing a swap would leave them with an engine of unknown history.

It really depends on what you want to achieve
Some will happily take your engine and complete a fully forged build and some will build drop a forged lump into yours and take your engine in exchange (plus loads of cash). The best thing to do is get in touch with someone down your way that builds. It's hard to comment as I don't know anybody in the east midlands area.

thanks lads any rough guesses on prices to forge my engine iv been told the imports have stronger bottom ends than the uk models im looking to acheive 450bhp i thought bout a stroker kit but i reckon fully forged is better what do you think

Your 'cheapest' and most staightforward/minimum hassle route would be a replacement bottom end from a New Age STi! Good for the 400-450bhp bracket - at least.
Why not ring around the tuners/specialsts who advertise on here to see if they have any (as some of their customers may 'junk' them wholesale for full-on rebuilds).
If you buy the bottom end private, just be careful what you're getting, etc...

SAE size of bell housing is the same.

II think the question you need to ask yourself is ... What are you really looking to achieve long term. You can keep throwing money into the car to increase the bhp but I think you may spend a heck of a lot more doing this in stages.
You may be better forgetting the short term mods inc the FMIC etc and concentrate on putting together a plan that will make you happy and save you a few quid.

I think you will be better, keeping an eye out for a nice forged engine on the forum, having the money in your hand at the time. I bet you get a bargain. I have seen forged engines, good for over 450bhp, go for well less than 2k.
Owen developments have a nice looking turbo , the GT3582 that bolts directly in to the OEM flange. This will do +600bhp. £2k.
How much are you looking to spend ?

Kenny's giving you some good advice there. You need to plan your build based on your availability of funds. Otherwise you will spend more than you need to having parts fitted, then removed to fit other parts etc..
If your wanting a forged engine then its definitely worth considering a stroker kit. It wont cost that much more, and the increase in torque & response is incredible. We've just finished one of our Cosworth 2.2 Stroker builds on a 2004 2.0 STI. Its got a VF35 turbo & weve fitted an exhaust & FMIC and although I'm still running it in & haven't mapped it yet the increase in torque is obvious already. The turbo is wanting to pull form a little over 2,000 RPM!

This is what I would do and probably will be doing in the future to my WRX PPP
