Default I/C Waterspray

Hi,

WRX STi Spec D 07/07.

Is the manual I/C waterspray I have a load of old tosh or is it actually effective?

Would I use is periodically on a warm day, or anytime of year if giving the car a good blast?

When I used to have a top mount I/C I would give it on hot days as much spray as possible.

If stuck in traffic give it a spray then if sat for more than say 5 mins just as you pull off spray it (sure it goes for around 6 seconds) .

Its there for a reason. Your be suprised of the temps they reach .

Normal nozzle is just a screenwash jet. I swapped to 4x misting nozzles. They give a finer spray which coats the intercooler more efficently.

There is a video on my youtube channel. On my phone so not easy to link it. Search for djtengineering

In my uk sti blob can i get the ic spray to work on auto as i have no serting for it just a manuel button, i know it can be set when havin a map etc, but is there a quick easy fix to this to make it so its on auto??

Also i find it quite noticable on mine during hot weather like yesterday for instance, bit of spirited driving along my mountain roads and it felt flat with the heat, hit the ic spray and it made an instant difference imo, felt the torque more if it makes any sense, just makes it alot more happier on WOT

Its quite easy to add a pressure switch into the circuit to make it fully auto. I made a variable timer that fires the water anywhere between always on to once every 6 mins. If I was doing it again I would add a boost switch as well.

Yeah thats it - thanks for linking to it.

Misting nozzles are either hard to find or very expensive. I found those ones online but would have to look back through emails to remember where.

Wouldn't the air coming through the scoop cause the water to mist regardless of what jets were used?

Yeah but it tends to make the water mist and either collect close to the jet or just go straight through the intercooler. That is a good place to be as its close to the throttle but my nozzles from the side cover more of the intercooler core.

Will log some temperature data when i get a chance.

automatic is the best way, I didnt think to do it that way, just did it on a simple timer. Could add a boost sensor into the circuit quite easily tho so something to think about for the future.

Does somebody make the spraybar as a kit so it can be added to other models? If it is so effective why did Subaru stop adding it to their cars? Cheers Vince

How do the factory auto work, is is temp or when you go onto boost?

Factory auto is ecu controlled, think there is a table for it on romraider. But can't 100% remember, think there's more to it than boost, I can confirm that in hot weather the bottle empties quickly so must be doing something usefull.

There is more to it than boost but difficult to replicate the same system without spending some time building circuits. Even with four nozzles my system doesnt empty very fast because the water is a much finer spray.

Does it just use the stock pump? Windscreen washer type pump?

Similar set up to me but with the groovy mist jets.

I'll have a search round and may change mine.
