Question

Always wondered this - does anyone know?

The plastic bits that stick out of the frames of the front doors. They're about halfway up each front window, just next to the window seal.

I sometimes find that if I open the drivers door and close it again too quickly, the tab catch the window glass.

Can anyone explain what they're for??

They guide the window into the channel when you wind it up at speed

Hi Rich

This was happening to me so when my car was in for its 1000 mile service i asked the dealer if it could be stopped. What you have to do is open the door that the window is catching on, then wind down the window and push down on the door with your body weight. Since then i have had no problems with the tab catching.

maxi instead of bending the door hinges with body weight is it not easier topull the rubber seal back undo the 2 screws that hold the plastic bit in place and remove it completely and put the rubber seal back
after what your dealer said i would not let him service a wheelbarrow!

Hello,

I had a very old MR2 which had these tabs, as it was old sometimes the window went the wrong side due to "door sag". I would suppose that prehaps the bolts holding your door on are loose or incorrectly fittend.

I would sugegest you either have a chat with your dealer or take it to someone else who could re-align your door?

I imagine any other solution (like leaning on the door) is storing up trouble, unless the rubber is wrong like scoobymax said.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the replies guys...

Normally, the tabs don't catch the glass on my car, unless I open and close the doors again too quickly.

Not really a problem.

Just wondered what the tab things were for...

My MY00 was catching occasionally on the tab. At the 1000 service my dealer just adjusted the position of the tab out a bit, and it's now fine.

This seems a little less drastic than bending the door hinges ;-)
