what is best and why
Hi, recently bought my 97 wagon import auto with 238bhp.
A freind knows a mate who will do a re-map for £220 (is that a good price)
I hear about dynos days and also rolling road days.
Just wondering what is best to get some quick and extra BHP
Cheers

Mate of a friend......
Does he know what he's doing? Impreza engines are DAMNED costly to rebuild, trust me.

Get a pro to map it, it'll be cheaper in the long run.

a map will change fuelling, air ratio, timing and boost produced leading to extra power BUT if done by a mate of a mate for the price of a pint will probably end up going bang and budget 2k plus to rebuild.
pay properly and get a reputable mapper to do the job.

All depending on what mods are done to the car, an extra 40-50bhp out of a TD04 it VERY optimistic! personally i would recommend one of the better known mappers off this and other scoob sites Racedynmix who i use, Bob Rawle who mapped my old car or Jolly Green Monster to name just a few.

You will need a ecu tek licence so for £220 no chance

That`s why i would find it interesting as 97/98 ecu`s were non mappable.

Any Impreza is mappable, just needs a different approach on different models.
As tony says, ESL is the way.
