TD05H-20g as an upgrade
Im looking at an upgrade for my52 WRX. Was thinking about a VF35 or VF43. Just looking at the TD05H-20g, what do you guys think ?
I want something that spools quickly and holds through the rev range.

As already posted, if you want a fast spooling and responsive turbo then the 20G is a no go, also it will be pushing your box and possibly engine to the limits powerwise. I would go for either the vf43 or vf35 as these are relatively cheap and easy to come by or there is also the 18g, sc36 etc but these are harder to come by and more expensive.

Everytime you see a 20G mentioned its always followed by how laggy it is.
I really can't understand where people are coming from. Im currently using a 20G and don't find it laggy at all. Yes I'm using meth now but even before it was far from laggy.
Before the 20 I had a VF28, which is a punchy quick spooling turbo as you know, added the 20G along with gt spec headers and up pipe and noticed no difference in spool.
Don't get me wrong, if your in 5th at 40mph and floor it then yes, takes a while to wake up but that's the same with any turbo.
Be interesting to know how many of those slating a 20G have actually lived with one.

I used to have one on my old bug sti and found it to be lazy unless I dropped a cog but it was good once it had picked up pressure but it wasn't to my requirements so went for a vf48 with 20% meth which wasn't much better
Never tried the 20G on a meth mix though.....

Didn't make good power on my 20g n very laggy on my 2.0litre engine, so I upgraded to a billet sc42 from the clinic.. Now my car is making 1bar of boost at 3200rpm, full boost around 3600rpm! Waiting for 3bar map sensor to be put it to make more boost n power soon! wouldn't recommend a 20g unless it's billeted.

You need to sort out your spooling issues, identify the problem area(s) and go forward from there.
I have just fitted a afp 20g non billet on my 05sti and im at 1bar at 3800rpm so it is quite laggy
I have one on a 2 litre at a consistent 3,140-3,160 rpm.

When I first got it, I thought it was laggy compared to my old td04, but obviously it will be because it's so much bigger. Once I'd driven it for a while, I started to love it. It made decent figures too - 391bhp/392lbft on 10% e85 and 370'ish of both without.
My daily is a 2.1 wrx with an sc36, and in comparison that one spools only a bit later than the td04, but doesn't have the same kick, so it's not as much *fun*. If I had to pick either to keep, I'd keep the 2.0 with the 20g because it's more fun.
