Hi people, swapped my diesel for a 2003 wrx sti at the weekend, big shock on fuel! ive had 3 scoobys before about 4-5 years ago so i know its never going to be good on fuel but i didnt remember it being this bad, i travel 60 miles a day for work and im getting about 180 miles to £50 is this normal? It might have to go at this rate cos im spending £50 every 2-3 days. Thanks

I'm assuming giving the distance, you're not driving it like you stole it, so it doesn't brilliant. I have been able to get 30mpg + on my much shorter trip to work. You should be able to get well over 300 miles to the tank - although I'm guessing at £50 you're not actually emptying the tank.

Worth checking the lambda is still there and working and tyres are inflated enough etc. I expect the more you drive it the more you'll find how to drive it economically.

yeah im doing 30 miles to work and 30 miles back, driving at 70, 80 at max, £50 and it went to just under full, so im guessing about £65 will fill up the tank? at that rate im guessing around 200-220 miles to a tank

yeah i was expecting around 300 to a tank

im not to technical with cars, where is the lambda sensor and how do i check its working? thanks

I've been driving mine pretty hard this week and managed about 300 out of a tank. if I take it easy 40 miles a day I can get 200 miles from 40 quid easy

The only way for any economy is to drive off boost but it's boring and tedious. Believe the 2.5's are more wallet friendly.

yeah i know ive been driving at 70mph and getting crap mpg, i know its not gonna be great but people are getting 300 miles to a tank which is much better

I've never got much more than 200 miles out of a tank but that's on a classic. I've gone the other way and bought a polo diesel for running around in and can't believe how good it is on fuel! £15 a week compared to £50 in the scoob doing same sort of mileage

I own a 2005 blob sti ppp and I drive like a granny, very rarely even get it in boost, I get about 172-180 miles to a tank of tesco 99 so what your saying sounds right to me

Roughly same as me Dan.

2005 Blob STi with PPP. Been getting roughly 200-220 to a tank. I try to keep at 70mph on motorway but once i'm on normal roads I can't help giving it some beans. Pointless having one otherwise.

I think when I go custom map I should see a slight improvement.

Surely no one buys a Subaru for its brilliant fuel consumption figures or any figures other than its performance? If petrol costs are a worry just wait till something goes pop on it.

All cars suffer with low mileage from full tank if you are driving little bit spirited or in the traffic

Usually we are getting on the full tank when we are mixed driving around 300miles(our record has been 330miles),when we are driving spirited driving 180miles from tank is maximum,on the track days 5mpg is normal MPG

Your car is mapped or unmapped?

Bad O2/lambda sensor can cause high fuel usage,when we have before damaged front O2 sensor we are get from full tank maximum 160miles,after refitting the new O2 sensor our MPG has been steady around 270-300 miles

Im pretty sure it hasn't been remapped. yeah i thought i should at least be getting 280-300 miles driving like a granddad, worked out on the mpg calculator and it saud 14mpg! lol i know there juicy and i wasn't expecting great mpg but that doesn't sound right

I think it's pretty confusing to compare miles per tank. Different size tanks, variance in how far you top up etc. Surely a better way to do it is, fill to the first cut off. Drive till your about half empty on the sort of driving you wish to compare, then fill to first cut off again.

Work out the maths, work out your mpg. I have an app on my iphone for this and on my 2003 Blobeye STi gets average 27mpg around town if I'm sensible. If I welly it it drops t between 20-24mpg and on the long run being sensible I get 30-32mpg.

Mines a blobeye sti uk spec mapped on vpower, i get between 200-230 miles on a full tank, however since its mapped it seems to be more fuel efficent, and ive changed the plugs and oil, it seems to much more better on fuel and alot smoother to drive!

I drive a 2002 wrx with sti set up etc. I get approx 180 miles for 40 quid of tesco 99. I drive it steady and dont race it through the gears much unless needs must. I get around 270 miles between fills, thats not full to empty, more like full to say 2 gallons left.

A full service and laptop diagnostic health check carried out by a specialist who knows these cars will help to improve your high fuel consumption. Amazing how old plugs or a dodgy lambda can lose 50+ miles per tank.
