Windscreen
Right so my windscreen needs replacing,
I Have checked my insurance and it appears they will cover it ,
but it counts as a claim, not sure if i want to go down the route of through insurance so, i started to ring up and get some qoutes,
1st autoglass £500 but we are doing a special 30% off u can have it toDAY ALL IN AT £372, Wtf that almost half the cars worth!
so i rang a few more and ive got it down to 204 inc vat, which i still think is shocking !
Now ive seen a few windscreen knocking about from cars being broke how easy is it to fit one?
i fitted an old fiesta one ones but that was piece of pi$$ as just used string in the rubber but these are bonded on i think.
or how much would it cost for a fitter to fit a glass i supplied do ya think?

Yeah my insirance is with bell and its a
£ 75 excess also, claim doesnt affect no claims bonus but its still counts as a claim on file and this will go to CUE so you next insurer will see it and your premium will naturally be a little higher but for the cost of extra £55 out of my own pocket i think itwill be cheaper than paying a higher premium for next 3 yrs.!!

I had one recently, and renewed after it, didn't make any difference to mine
However, I used to be a windscreen fitter many moons ago, don't try it yourself mate, Impreza screens are not te best to do when you know what your doing, bonded in, need a top trim, and they can be a bugger to get to sit right, plus probably clips, not worth the hassle

I went through insurance once and paid about £60 I think. It turned out to be a Mickey Mouse screen, and was "dangerous" at night in my opinion.
Whatever was on the inside of the glass, I couldn't clean it off. Fortunately it got hit by a large stone only a few months later, good.
I didn't go through insurance again, and got a genuine VW screen from work (I also have a Passat)
Insurance companies provide chocolate screens. Never bothering again.

When I had mine done thought the insurance it was a bit of a saga. It got it done in the end. RAC windscreens were the company the insurance got to do it and after the 5th or 6th failed attempt the fitter said that he was surprised I wasn't specifying that it had to be an original Subaru windscreen. I didn't know you could do that but I tried it and they supplied an original Subaru screen, no argument.
Found the original thread I did about my experiences. Forgot quite how much of a saga it actually was!

You can ask for OE, but my insurance company told me it would have to be approved and would take time and cost more money.
Thiefs.
I cut the hassle and went to parts at work and got one in the next day, then had it fitted by a reputable place nearby.
Costly, but done quickly.
