Big thanks and TD04 Billet Wheel Turbo
I know these threads pop up and can be a bit boring but this one has a least a little bit of techieness in it!!!!
Firstly though I wanted to say a massive thank you to the guy's at Enginetuner for everything they did on my Scooby last week. Due to not being able to check in to my hotel until 2pm and having to check out the next morning they put up with me in their reception area for the best part of 2 days!!!!
Particular thanks go to Alan for organising it and putting up with the PM's and questions on the day(s), Adam and Martyn for doing the work and Linda in reception for copius amounts of tea and chat!!!!
I had the Alcatek ECU fitted along with the Toucan screen plus Walbro and front brake upgrade and new turbo - Adam also fitted my rear strut brace while he had the seats out and Alan found me a decat pipe (my so called sports cat described when I bought the car turned out to be a standard cat) and a TMIC when mine fell apart when taken out!!!!!
The unusual bit is that rather than have a bigger turbo fitted I had the brand new billet wheel version of the TD04 supplied by Scoobyclinic - apparently it is the first one fitted to a scooby. I have no intention of going with forged internals and so wanted to get the best out of the stock one's - I'm never going to have a 400bhp beast..................he says confidently!!!
I must say I have been very impressed with it so far - it spins up very quickly and comes in at low revs as the standard but being a billt wheel flows air better etc. The car feels alot smoother when accelerating in 1st/2nd/3rd and has alot more kick when you plant your foot in 4th and 5th. It has produced a very nice torque and boost curve when mapped with the Alcatek.
Mine is only a 98 UK 2000 Turbo so 208bhp standard (and likely to have lost a little in the last 14 years!!!) with the new turbo, Alcatek and a few other basic mods such as Walbro, Induction kit and slightly bigger TMIC it made 287bhp to the point where Martyn was happy with it. Martyn did say though that with another charge cooling upgrade (so newage STi TMIC or FMIC) and bigger injectors that the turbo had a lot more to give............................so of course I'm already looking into that!!!!!!!
All in all though very happy and the turbo for me personally and what I'm trying to achieve for my particular car has been fantastic and in my opinion better than going for a size upgrade and it being more laggy etc. If I can get more than 300bhp once the injectors and charge cooling is sorted and still have the fast spool up then I'll be happy and it doesn't seem like there's going to be an issue.
Oh and the ECU and Toucan are great too!!
Cheers Enginetuner.co.uk.

This one shows you don't always have to go for big power! It drives really sweet, and we're glad we gave the man what he wanted.

It's designed for around 320bhp but with better spool than the VF series turbos.
Available from ourselves or direct through Scoobyclinic, we think they'll go down a storm amongst those looking for just that little bit more than their stock turbo.

Yeah, that's basically exactly what I was looking for - extra power but fast spooling and with the Alcatek to know that it's all working together as safely and efficiently as it can be.
If I can improve the cooling with a bigger TMIC and get bigger injectors and break the 300bhp then I'll be happy.

Yeah, exactly - not the highest power in the world but delivered extremely quickly.
It's most noticeable to me after driving with the original TD04 in 4th/5th but in 1/2/3 the power is delivered much more smoothly. You don't have that feeling of being thrown back in your seat in 1st or 2nd but you are still going as fast if not faster than with the old turbo.
Plus the graph it produced on the RR after being mapped was very nice!!!
I'm happy with it anyway

I got a td04 hybrid off Andrew Carr few weeks ago the difference between it and the standard td04 is amazing much quicker with fast spool and more mid range now too. Believe it's the first one he's tried and he was very impressed with it, said it performed very much like AF td04h he's doing them on an exchange basis too. Will have the car on rollers in a few weeks to see what it's putting out.

It doesn't spool quite as fast as you'd expect, it doesn't have the lighter Billet comp wheel. It does make the same amount of power though so as with most things, you pays your money, you takes your choice
