what is my car!?
Had the car for about a month now, starting stripping down and stuff but then realised... why do i not have dccd? Because my car doesnt have it, which must mean its not a type r...
chassis code is GC8E27D
I have been looking online, and it looks like it is a WRX type r v limited - special edition 2 door RA.
are there many of these about? sound right with you guru's? what are the differences between the type r and my model?
cheers.

It's WRX type R Vlimited.
These did not come with DCCD or any of the other fancy bits that an STI came with.
Did get a roof vent though which is a nice little extra.
But yes, it is a type R just not an STI. It was just a cheaper alternative back when new.

All the models in that year (except wagon) had 280ps. Yours will have the WRX engine with 242 lbft torque compared to the STI which got 260 lbft.
The WRX engine is weaker than the STI.

As in not as strong
Forged pistons, stronger crank and rods came with the STI. Best bet is to speak to one of the engine experts If you want all the in's and outs though chap.
Wouldn't get too hung up though. If your car is well treated and not pushed to extremes it will serve you well.

I got ported heads on mine, and got a v6 sti crank. Also got a IHI Vf22 few other bits and bobs too. Just curious if it was cast or forged rods. Would have been nice to have forged, but im not too bothered to be honest. It pulls strong. what aren't as strong are my sills, need two of them

been researching sills and they come in 3 pieces, the front is part of the A pillar, there is a short centre section in centre, then the last part is the whole rear quarter and C pillar. So gunna be finding some of a breaker
So to clarify it is a type R, not a type RA cos after plenty of research i still dunno. Dont wanna be putting the wrong stickers on after a respray!

Its a WRX Type R.
Sill wise, is it not repairable. Cut out the rot and plate it. I've actually just had a bit plated this week.

i think the near side could be plated, probably needs a 3''x2'' piece thats all. But the o/s is defo fooked. got a hole in it which i can put my hand through. thats at the back but its sarting towards the front. Its the outer side the body work. The actually strength inner sill is all good. Could possibly get some rolled? but i dont know anywhere which could do that.
also found that under my boot seal is rotten -,-. think im gunna get a better welder for my 21st ha gunna need it!

they did a limited edition 2 door RA though. So it says on the http://www.catherineandken.co.uk/sti/wrx.html my chassis code is gc8e27d which matches that one.
saying that the actual model says type r, forget the comment above.

I see where your coming from as the number '7' in the applied model code does denote an RA.
As far as I was aware the WRX Type R was not an RA and if you scroll further down the list in your link it shows the V5 WRX Type R not described as an RA but it still has '7' in its code.
Maybe I'm wrong, a PM to the Impreza bible (Tony) will no doubt put our minds straight.

The seats in my car have v3 embroided into it and a v3 badgd on the back. But according to that chassis number it should be a v4 or even 5. What's tony's username ill send him a pm.

"Version" applied to the STi range - not the WRX.
The "V3" on your seats relates to the 3rd WRC manufacturers title.

If you follow my first link you will see the brochure scan & press release for your car.
I also have some more paperwork from a jap dealer for the release of this model.
When I get time I'll scan it & upload it on the RA site.

much appreciated! just followed the link and that is my car in standard form. so its a type r. That ends that mystery. My boss (previous owner for 12 years) never knew if it was ra or r. So has an ra on the back. Do you know anywhere where i can get the orginal stickers from, including the celebration badge?

The best place for the info on the ra and r range of impreza is on www.type-ra.co.uk
Think Tony would also agree on this....

Not sure what colour they are so they may or may not be right for your car.
I think japanparts.com have some V-Limited boot badges left - not sure which version. But be prepared to pay!!
