Second best after VF34 turbocharger for a Classic V2 Sti. Advice please !
Hi. As above, I'm looking for a turbo as an upgrade to my TD05 16g. I know that VF34 would be the best choice but was wondering if there is anything similar for a bit less money ?
My firs remap coming soon and with supporting mods I'll be looking at 350-360 bhp. I'm more about quick spool not top speed so...
I'm all ears :-)

I'm not looking for a better turbo than vf34, I was wondering if there is anything better than TD05 16g but less pricey than vf34 if you know what I mean ?
Let's say £350 mark

Legacy,
What sort of money we are talking about for a new sc36 and where can I get it from ?
banny,
350-360bhp would be nice but it is not a MUST :-)
I'm just looking for a nice, not too laggy turbo with decent spool. As I said I'm more about torque than Bhp.

Have got a vf30 thats in between the vf35-vf34. Its spooling a bit later that them to but pulls hard till 8k rpm. I had upgraded from 16g as well and must say is much nicer car to drive now. Im porting the manifold and getting the upipe to get it spooled even earlier. Hope this helps.

Here's the latest :-)
I can have VF35 with 60k for £300
and VF35 with 28k for £350
Both units without waste gate cracks and posted.
Should I get one of these or wait for vf34 ?

VF34's are rare.. I got lucky finding mine.. Had a VF30 on before it and just couldn't get on with how late it spooled up.
Get the VF35 fit and map it and then if you don't like it keep your eyes peeled for a VF34 and remap it again.
Pretty sure one of the breakers would have Vf34 though.

Just pay the extra - get the turbo you want - Job done.
If you buy a 35 and then decide you still want a 34 then you are spending out the £100 on the remap again anyway.

Your TD05 is a 90degree inlet or side entry, whereas the VF34 etc are front entry
People are either speaking from ignorance or to lazy to actually look at what car you have Don't waste your money IMHO. TD05 16g is a good turbo with the right set up and mapping
However...other options...talk to Andy F about his AFP5-16/18 turbos as this is based on the 93-96 90 degree inlet TD05. To the best of my knowledge these are like the Hybrid TD04's in that you see earlier spool and better boost efficiency. These are also offered on exchange for your old turbo for similar money to the VF you were offered by Matty albeit these are remanufactured by Andy to be better than new
Andy may also be able to assist you in converting a VF34 should you be able to source one in your budget.
What gearbox are you running, mods etc. It's better to run a smaller turbo and get the best out of it for the supporting mods than be a billy big bollox with a bigger turbo but fail to reap the benefits due to fragile drivetrain, insuffcicient injectors or maf limitations etc...

Thanks a LOT guys for all replies. Much appreciated.
As for mods:
ON THE CAR ALREADY
- Major_Sarcasm CHIP
- fully decatted system
- K&N 57i IK
- Harvey ported headers with matching uppipe
- Exedy uprated Stage 1 clutch kit (done less than 2k )
- Lateral Performance lightened flywheel 6Kg
- Walbro 255
- NGK PFR7B spark plugs
WAITING TO BE FITTED
- freshly rebuild (by Three Arches) TY754 box with matching diff
- new ESL daughter board
- FMIC
- 550cc side feed injectors
Am I missing something on my list to achieve good torque figures ?
As advised above, my best bet will be to give a call Andy F and ask for advice regarding which turbo to choose if not to stay with my current one :-)
Thank You

I'm planning to keep the car and by little steps making it better and better. I rather chose a turbo I will like in aspects I've stated above instead of changing it after a month or so because of being disappointed.
I'm not in rush and if I will have to save a bit more money for a really good one, I'll do it.
