Maybe A Subaru Today???
Good Morning All,
This is my first post here, and I always think the best advice comes from the enthusiast forums.
To be simple I am 28 and looking to have fun for a year with a toy. I test drove a Nissan 350Z and didnt like it and it also didnt seem to pull that hard. Same with Mazda RX-8.
So now I am narrowing down between either a scooby or evo. The only thing with a evo is the really high maintenience, I have been told scoobys dont need as heave as a evo.
Anyway I have seen this scooby for sale which I can view and I could buy today, but should I be concerned about buying a 95k 1 owner scooby? and is this good value at £4650? and will ir drive better for example than a 350Z?

No mention of brake upgrade to match the supposed power hike.... Also I would dodge a car with a bov dv fitted as they can cause running issues. For a little more money you can get a much better car if you buy from a private seller.
Search the for sale section on here

You could draw the cash out via a few visits to a hole in the wall....... Personally I tend to avoid buying from traders as they are very good at maximising profit by covering up faults etc, there is nothing worse than thinking you have bought a mint car and after a couple of jet washes having a bonnet covered in stone chips where the paint work from a cheap blow over paint job has come off

Yeah I do get what your saying, I havent really given PayPal much thought, would assume not many people would want to take paypal on such item as a car. I really hope a scooby would be a completely different drive to the ones I tested above, and ideally I am looking at 300+bhp.

If you want power like that, you are either going to have to up your budget and buy a newer car, or bite the bullet and go for something that's been modded.
THEN, the questions start:
Who modded it?
What EXACTLY was done?
Was it done so that the engine would not have to work to hard and would be strong?
Or was it done with little knowledge and with power first as the aim?
How has the car been treated?
What about services?
If it's been modded, can YOU still get an MoT when the time comes? (Emissions etc).
Can you insure it with EVERY modification declared? EVERY one?
Has the suspension been looked at in light of the power?
Is the suspension tired?
Have the brakes been looked at in light of the power?
How much life is left in tyres and brakes?
The list goes on, but you get my drift.
Don't rush into ANYTHING. You've come to the right place for advice, but DO sift the advice. Those of us who have had our cars for a LONG time tend to give better advice than someone who has just come to the cars andf is basing his knowledge on what he did to his Clio Sport or Fiesta ST

If your budget is 6k you should be able to get a 50-60k mile WRX STI. i paid 6800 and got a 02 WRX STI Prodrive with full service history immaculate paint work, interior,60k miles and no modifications because i want a standard unmolsted one.

It could be me being over fussy but the Prodrive performane package has 305bhp (i think) so 320 would be non standard and if it is nonstandard how well was it remapped how has it been treated does he warm it up before thrashing it etc. When i was looking for a car some times just the way they wrote the add put me off.
TBH it is worth being really picky now to save maybe thousands of pounds worth of work. also ask about the clutch on a 50k mile car because it might be somthing that may need replacing in the near future.
I dont know much about modded subaru's but if they are unstandard then you have to grill them to see if they have just thrown a halfrauds exhaust on it and claim its fooking faster than a ferrari 6000bhp!!

Sti ppp is way to go.
Over 300bhp easy to insure as not modified.
Lot cheaper to run than a evo with same performance.
Usually change my car every year, had sti over 3 years just cant find anything better without spending stupid money.
