Default Greasing knocking STi struts...

Hi guys,

My 2003 STi has knocking rear struts. I've seen the method of re-greasing them but wondered if you re-grease them are they as good as new?

I'm just weighing up my options, not going for coilovers would prefer oem struts with Prodrive springs.

So, better to re grease or replace with new/second hand oems?

Cheers...

Good stuff, I thought about buying new but if greasing is just as good, why not? Is there anything that wears out or just the grease?

There's a guide on youtube for adding grease nipples which will save you having to take them apart to regrease them when they eventually knock again.

Is there a link anywhere (with pictures) on how to re grease these noisy *******?!

I have an 07 plate STi Spec D, and I can't believe that 5 years after selling my 54 plate STi blob, that Subaru still........still fit chocolate rear struts / top mounts.

My NSR one sounds awful.

Un be fecking lievable!

The main problem is the poor quality grease in the OEM fitment, replacing with good quality grease should see you right for a few years (depending on mileage) mine have been done nearly two years now.

When my mechanic returns from hols I am getting him to fit new 'Tein S' springs all round & re-grease struts plus fit grease nipples. Checked with oilman what grease to use & he recommended Silkolene PRO RG2 Racing Grease.

Did the grease nipple job on the rear shocks on my old Spec D, worked a treat.
