I am new to subaru, my classic has only just done 100k and it needs a rebuild, big end or small end problem, piston slap. Was told by scoobyclinic that at around 80-100k your looking at a rebuild . I love the car and rather spend on another one i am going to make this one all good when money allows.

Well i dont think some of these subaru experts no what they are doing. My car has been making this knocking sound from the engine for the last 9 months, and it is still used daily and runs fine, apart from the noise. If it was big ends ect car would of gone by now surley. Did see a uk car with 149k still going strong.

Im in a similar situation
with high milers I would only have a 1 or 2 owner
my last one was a 1 owner 115k, I did 10k in it and sold it on, wouldnt have known the miles driving it, drove excellent
the bodywork was a little different, full of car park door knocks

depends who had the car before you

I bought my first classic quite a few years ago, with 80k on it. I did loads to it, and drove it hard. It had 132k on the clock when we parted company with the engine still strong.

All depends on how well its been looked after.. Mine is a UK Turbo 2000 running 350bhp at 142K, still going strong.

Really!!!! If that was the case I would never have bought a Scooby. It all comes down to how well the car has been looked after and the history. If its abused mileage will be limited. If its looked after and maintained 100k is nothing.

80-100k rebuild?

That's *****, as already stated its all about the history and in particular the oil changes and the spec of the oil that's been used for the cars life, and how it's been used/ treated, if it's been drivin like its been stolen for years and not looked after then yeah it's rebuild time, but good oils well maintained at correct intervals the there's no reason for this

80-100..k rebuild i think is rubbish too and to say poss small end rubbish too.my car has been making that tapping noise for over 9 months and runs ok apart from the noise. I just hope my valve clearance was really checked. Not much faith in garages.
