Speeding: NIP - 42 in a 30 - how many points, how much £
#3
Should get around 3 points and around 60 pound fine. Funny you should mention that but my mate Rod got caught doing 95 mph in a 30 mph zone. Was racing a Skyline R34 in his Vauxhall Viva. Funny thing is the copper was Rod's brother in law Mike(the bulldog) who gave him a swift telling off! Mike's a really regular guy. Out of uniform he's such a hoot down the Bowling alley!!! Its hard not to hard especially in my SPort. Even a small movement on the accelerator and I am airborne!!!!!!

I've just noticed on the NIP that it says the car is a GL and it is in fact an STI. I'm sure the info is from the DVLA, who made the mistake despite being told by me that thye have got it wrong. Is there any mileage in arguing this one or is it just pay up time?

They can give you up to 6 points and £4-600 fine. I got caught doing 45 in a 30 very recently and sent the form back with a paragraph on the back saying about keeping up with the speed of other traffic, another car overtaking me shortly before the camera becuase I was travelling at 30 and that I didn't want to hinder progress of traffic. I also mentioned it was good dry conditions and relatively early sunday (it was 9am) so I regarded my speed as safe. They gave me 3 points and £60 which is the minimum.

My uncle recently got £60 fine & 3 points for doing 43 in a 30. The trap was just over the brow of hill (aren't they always!). I've "just" got the same fine for doing 61 in a 40 - the cops are onto a real money spinner because you are coming from a national speed limit to 40 over a flyover(however, it is still dual carriageway with central barrier & to be perfectly honest, you are a hazard if you are not keeping up with traffic. What I don't agree with is that the road is far worse 1 mile back (a real accident blackspot), yet it is 70mph!!!!!!
You can phone up the ticket office and ask for a copy of the photo - you never know, it might be someone else with an identical plate! They spelt my name wrong but they said it didn't make any difference - fill in part 1 with correct details!
I've kept a clean licence for over 19 yrs and always try keep to limits and under (when pedestrians/animals are around).
Whomever it was doing over 90mph in a "genuine" 30 limit wants certifying!
Anyway, good luck!
