Question

Later this year I'll be coming over to Blighty with my new totally standard WRX I'm coming from Switzerland and we don't have the PPP available to us there are other options to increase the power but as the car is new I'd like to keep in good terms with the warranty!

So I'd like to know if it can be done how much will it cost and what are the typical results?

Cheers mi Dears....

Plums, assuming you've got the bugeye, PPP is an excellent package to have in terms of adding a bit more zip, especially if you want to keep the warranty. Not sure if there are any other packages around that are either better, more BHP without affecting the warranty, or even cheaper, but no doubt a few people on here will be able to advise.

Got a UK300 with PPP and suitably impressed, on my 2nd scooby after having a 98 from new until last year, but the PPP package lets it continue to push through the revs without much effort.

Cheers

Forgot to add it cost me 1600 squids for the extra BHP, moves it to something between 245-250 running on SUL

Plums, no I am afraid the UK300 comes with the standard 215 BHP plant, buyers of the UK300 just had first shout on the Prodrive Upgrade pack which cost a further 1600 when they first came out, hence why it moved from 24.9 for the standard model (just the cosmetic bits) to 26.5K for the extra performance.

The crap here is, that when I bought it, I was being told the STI would most probably be in the 30K+ range, in hindsight I wished I hung on for the standard STI which ended up cheaper than the UK300 with PPP.

However IMHO its still a good looking motor.

Cheers

Matey there's nothing wrong with the UK300!!!

Limited edition goes like stink and looks the nuts!

In years to come they will be a very sought after object....

So PPP gives you around 30-35 bhp extra?
Torque gets booted up as well I guess?

Is it only fitted when the car leaves the factory as a dealer option or can it also be an aftermarket fit....

plums, don't get me wrong, think its the dogs danglies , just thought subaru could have been a bit more forthcoming on what was happening with the STI in terms of price bracket.

Apparently they have to fit it after registration (emission rules thing), i.e. at the dealers. I waited for the first service, as it did not bring much added benefit when your restricted to 4000 revs

plums, been thinking the same.

The PPP is now available in Belgium for around 1999 euros which @ the current exchange rate translates to around £1250.

A few of us are trying to get a better price with a group buy, I think there is probably about 5 interested so far, it's moving pretty slowly but I'm not really in any rush. Even if we don't get a better group buy price this is still a damn good saving and makes the PPP much more affordable.

The power increase is more like 25BHP, but it's the torque where the main gains are to be made. They had the power curves on the UK subaru website but they've restructured the site and these have disappeared??? I scanned a copy from the accessories brochure but it's on my work PC. I'll post it Monday if you're interested.

Zilch,
I have a UK300 and I love it but agree with you about the pricing compared with a new STi.
I wrote to complain to IM and eventually got a letter back from the MD no less explaining how much it cost to tool up the parts for the UK300 etc and how they had to make a profit.
It didnt really get me anywhere though but I felt better after sounding off...

Plums, changes are basically as follows:

New ecu, courtesy of Banbury
rip off the standard twin and put a nice big pipe on for you,
change a few hoses.

There are a few other things at additional cost, but the basic package did it for me.

Run it on 97/98 super unleaded, it does give you more bhp over the standard green

Noise increases, performance increases, Smiles get bigger

Cheers

In Portugal, our PPP costs 4.5k euros. But you get:

PPP (ECU, backbox)
WRC headlights
Prodrive spring kit for suspension
P1-style OZ anthracite wheels
UK 300 style spoiler (saloon only )
Prodrive brake callipers and discs
Prodrive gearknob, sticker, key fob

Edited to add clear indicators and reflectors

Dunno if retro-fit is possible, or only buying from new!

Thumbs down

Why not get a full SS exhaust system for under £600? 250 - 260 bhp.
I know of people who have done this with no warranty probs. They have to prove it broke anything that went wrong.

I think the PPP is pretty **** for the money.

No worries plums.

Mark been umm'in and are'in over the PPP or scoobysport route for a while now.

By my calculations a scoobysport system not including the uppipe is more like £716.75 approximately and that does not include fitting. If you take a look at Pete Dyno he saw a max of 244bhp and 233 lb/ft with no cats. So add another 1er for the uppipe and say a 1'er for fitting you must be getting close to 1k.

For what, an exhaust system!!

With the PPP the get the ECU and some intercooler piping, don't know how benificial this is maybe it's just eye candy for after you've shed 1.5k, and the exhaust bits. You also get a warranty and get to keep your manufacturers warranty intact. Now I know as you say that some people have not had a problem with this, but I think it depends on your dealer. Also having a belgium import, I don't want to give them any excuse for squirming out of a warranty claim (that I probably will never actually make).

Once the warranty's up then you can strap on your scoobysport uppipe and downpipe with the PPP and see figures near the 280's

Now what's **** about that

Dear Plums
I was given a six week period for delivery by my dealer. That took me up to the 16th of April 2002. I left it another two weeks before going on a cruise to the Carabbean for a fortnight, I came back and phoned my local dealer thinking it would all be ready to fit but oh no. The full kit still has not been delivered to them that now makes 11 weeks. My dealer said its a problem with Prodrive, and that they have in fact another 2 people waiting for the package as well.

The moral of this long winded e-mail is that you will have to put an order in NOW to get for next year by the looks of it.

Or is my dealer just fibbing ?.

Keep smiling (They seem to hate it).

I should order mine now.....

I'm only going to be in England for 2 weeks so if they start messing me around I've got no chance!

That test was with barely 3000 miles on the car and with the up pipe cat in place. Is there anyone on this bbs that thinks their car had reached its full potential after it had covered only 3000 miles?

The car may go back on the dyno again soon, as it now has a Link and I am interested to see the numbers.

Customers that have had their 01s tested with a turbo back system showed around 250 and with the up pipe done as well, low 260's.

As you rightly say, a PPP and Scoobysport exhaust will give around 285 bhp. A Link and Scoobysport exhaust is even quicker.

I suggest that you chase you dealer. There is no problem with the supply of the WRX PPP's into Subaru UK from Prodrive!

Pete, yeh I know the mileage was low, I had mentioned that but I started dribbling on and on, so cut some text off, should have left that bit in I guess

As for the cats, I didn't think you'd replaced the uppipe that early but it does say "(no cats)" on the dyno report. Thanks for correcting me though, hope you don't think I'm knocking your system, just trying to be subjective with the limited knowledge that I have.

Just waiting for warranty to run out then I can get that cat-less system in place and see some flames
