Default 555 in dealer High wycombe. Anyone recognise it?

Looking for a car and find one I fancy on autotrader. An alledgely 555 that looks smart. I Call the dealer ask about the loads of history and details on the vin plate... He hasnt got a clue and the car isnt on the premises to check, I dont get a warm feeling about it. Should I walk away?
Anyone know this car?
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...s?logcode=visc

Its a long way to go for a wrongun, anyone local check it out for me please?

Mods please feel free to move if in the wrong section

Cheers Steve

My thoughts exactly.
The dealer seems to know so little. Seems pointless asking if its a gen 555 ltd.All 555's should have a plaque on the dash? I know what serial numbers should be on the vin plate. Is there anything else I can ask over the phone to check its a 555?

555 sti never had a plaque with a number. 500 saloons and 100 wagons were made. Its not a 99 thats an error.
Looks like a good unabused model.

The ariel is in the right place for the 555 sti the ra had it on the a pillar. It has the roof flap and side skirts and even has the original mud flaps.

Wrong rear spolier though as it should be the mid level one.

Looks like a 555 to me and I can almost see my house in his photos I have a feeling that it's a car that was for sale on here a while ago.

I have the remains of my 555 sat in my garage so you can compare the trim codes if you can get any info from him.

After looking at it again I remember this car being for sale in Wycombe 2 years ago and it had a fast and furious style rear spoiler. Front brakes are Alcon's though

They are P1 wheels, 555's have 16" Speedline Safari wheels

The drivers front door looks awful in the photos and most likely wants a respray.

I can see it in the photos, probably easy to sort out,but considering its had so much cash spent on it ,imo it should look better.
On the plus side it has big brakes on the front.

You blokes have been great. Ive got so many questions... Are there serial numbers stamped on the block? Where will I find them? Do worn mains cams/valve timing etc sound the same on a boxer as an inline engine?

Called the dealer again and still havent got that warm feeling. Other than the engine was changed at 84k (for what i dont know) and the bills total 24k for the life of the car. Part of me says forget it and the other part says I could be missing a goodun. Maybe I'm expecting too much for my 3k buget? Thats 3k for a car where the owner says "yeah I had this done or that replaced etc etc" I think I should broaden my search to include more modified cars
