Default New boy with seemingly not new problems!

Recently joined after buying a 97 Outback to replace my Honda Shuttle with 210000 miles (failed MOT on emissions)
Only previous Subaru experience a 1987 Justy years ago.
Pleased with the drive and apart from rear wiper not working just two problems-
Gurgling noise near radio but no obvious coolant loss
Eats oil towards the Honda even at just less than half the mileage (1 litre per fuel fill)How common are these faults?-can live with them!

Gurgling noise might be a faulty heater matrix. Not cheap to fix as its a dash out job :/

Default OIL

Thanks for thoughts on gurgling, oil type may be wrong though. Put 10w 40 part synthetic from Wilko in and it evaporated! Added Carlube High Mileage 15w 40 and slowed consumption down a bit. Perhaps I should use 20w 50?
