Default what would you do? (poll)

Throwing some ideas around and thought id see your opinions on the following.

IF you had 20k on the table right now, what would you buy with it car wise?

have been thinking about.

2.1 strokered cdb classic with sc46 and associated gubbins.

2.35 cdb GT30d classic

porsche 996 Turbo

i love my imprezas and really want a high powered strokered engine but the prices of the porsches have come down so much now and carrera 4s around the 9-10k mark...

what im thinkng is,the porsche would be the best overall,ie a car that is ment to do 190+ mph awd and twin turbo.
the scoobys would still be quick and be on its tail but the gearing of the porsche will hold the at bay??
ie how many 190+ imprezas are out there.

then youve got the opposite side to the coin,

if you get a 911 most people look at you and think your a complete bell end and have a car like that to make up for other shortcomings haha.

i dont know, things are quiet today and have been pondering for the last day about this.

whats your thoughts.

I personally cant stand Porsches with the exception of the 917 short tail lol. and as you say 911 owners look like bell ends and that there having a mid life crisis and as for doing 190mph+ where are you going to be able to do that apart from track days and even then your not going to reach those speeds.

If I had the money I would build a one off impreza that no one else has if that makes sense.

Impreza STI type r, 2.35, 6 speed DCCD, billet GT35, and all the other bits and bobs you'll need.

Would absolutey destroy any Porsche out there, and just about everything else you came up against

However, you won't build that for £20K so you better start looking hard for one already done.

i would spend 3-4k on my daily blob making it more powerful but reliable then spend the rest on a 500+ bhp evo for a weekend car and if there is any change i MIGHT think about servicing mrs shreks fiesta but highly unlikely

This is absolutely right.

However I'd buy the 911 personally.

£20 grand? I think that would go on paying the fuel bill for the one I have now, thanks.

I've worked out that if I just give it away- or strip it for spares, it will save me money in just three years at today's prices! Ouch- talk about an expensive hobby.....

If all you have is £20k i'd steer clear of the 911, the buying part is easy it's the upkeep thats going to cost the big bucks.

I'd get myself a spec c and mod it to around 450/480bhp,which would cost £2/3k you can pick a nice one up for £15k much better all round car and there aren't many porker drivers that could get away from you in the real world.

Big power classics cost big bucks and you need to put everything off a newage onto one to do it, so may as well start from the best base available that has most of what you need fitted as standard, then theres the kudos of owning a spec c, that or a 22b.

Cheap porsche are not a good idea ( been there done that ), buy a bad one and you will live to regret it big time ,
A 20k turbo does sound a little cheap tbh but I've not looked recently
I've had a few and good ones are fantastic motors
It's ok folk say this impreza or that impreza will thrash a 996 , maybe so but will it still thrash it after its done 100k miles ( without a rebuild ) I very much doubt it

The 996 turbo for £20k has quite a mileage. That might not be a problem if it has few owners and has been maintained properly with no hidden history, but if selected because it was the cheapest it probaby won't have been.

This looks interesting with 700 WHP http://www.lancerregister.com/showthread.php?t=425201

A properly built one to start with would

And let's be honest, who's gonna do 100K in a 2.35 GT35 classic.....it would hardly be an everyday car.

really dont like the look of a blob and only like evo 1-6 and the 8.

was toying with a hawkeye but would have to be a 2.0l

wouldnt mind a blob with a hatchface.
similar to this, without the gay rear spoler

so you're saying it would withstand 100k of hard driving , I very much doubt that and it would certainly not do the same mileage as a well looked after Porsche , and you can use a 996 as a dd no problem , In comfort

Putting 20k into a Japanese rice rocket will see very little return if you come to sell it unlike if you bought a Porsche like the one in the OP's link.

Maybe not, but I'd hazard a guess and say a built 2.35 from RCM would get pretty close, but then 20K wouldn't be enough for the engine alone.

How hard are we talking, a Porsche driven like a **** constantly would struggle to see out 100K without any major issues. And you've only got to browse Pistonheads to see how many imprezas are still going strong at well over 100K.

It's horses for courses really and what the OP wants from a car. The Porsche is the better car, no doubt about that an the wise money gets spent there. But, would it be as much fun as a 650bhp classic.....not a chance !

Style, comfort, quality - buy something like a Porsche
Fun, sheer grin factor and **** your pants acceleration... Well you know what to buy.

Having said all that I'd have neither. 5 grands worth of classic for Sunday afternoon fun and a diesel golf for during the week.

Easily pleased me you know

Without a doubt scoobys are the most fun for the money and like you say a 5k scooby can be fun
If I was looking for a new car for 20k I'd be looking for an e90 m3

I hate to say it but think I'd go diesel, 535D Msport would do me. Surprisingly quick car...

Personally I think if you ploughed 20 large into something your gonna use at the weekends for fun you'd always be worried about bending it.
Best bet is something nice to smoke around in during the week and a cheap fun car to blast at the weekends.

i love the shape of the classics, but they are getting on now and the rust on my last one on the rear arches makes me more wary. id love a 2 door though

bug eyes are growing on me,i like the style of the arches.apart from the front indicator.

hawkeyes are growing on me too but i think the back looks abit lardy.

would like to do a hatchback front onto a bugeye, reckon it would look nice if done right.

they all look so good, but the porsche oozes style, but be scared to park it anywhere and get pulled all the time driving it and insurance will be extreme no doubt.

if you get a porsche, dont get an auto/ tip tronic one, because we had one in a 997 and it was the pinnacle of sh*te. awkward to use (with your thumb) and always went a gear to low when you wanted to floor it. If i was going to buy a porsche i'd stick to a normal Carrera S manual. You don't need the 4s and defo no auto! saying that, for 20 grand you can get a lot of car!

And you could own this. The value will only ever go one way too. Stunning.
