what is it lately with people fitting mods without remapping and asking why it runs funny, does the search facility not work anymore or are people just stupid?
I could understand a remap for big changes to the car, but surley small changes like a pipe or air filterthe standard ecu could cope.
Yes the standard ECU will adjust itself to accommodate things to a degree, but its not ideal. Fully de-catting a car and changing the amount of air is being drawn in really need mapping in, if nothing else it gives you the piece of mind it's running sweet.
Also, why do we all mod our cars ? Because we want to get the most out of it, without mapping these mods in we will never get the best from them.
A slight change in fuel then yes the ecu will adjust slightly but anything more then get it done.

I think people are scared of the £1200 bill that they get quoted for a simtec with anti lag and lc. Especially as the value of the car is only in the eye of the beholder.
It's also possible that people want to do as much as possible to the car before shelling out all that money at once.
For example; if you're replacing the injectors and turbo at a 4 figure cost, you then need to add the new ecu on top and it has to be done at the same time
I know where some of the moans are coming from but there are some questions that tuners do disagree on, like cat replacement pipe. We know it'll be better with a remap but you'll still gain benefits without one.
p.s i know very little and i'm quoting what i've seen and read on here and from my own technician.
Assuming the guy has not given it the beans, changing to a FMIC will not make it misfire. Driven sensibly you could go for months before getting the map sorted, although weeks in my case, with absolutely no problems at all as in my reply in that thread.
If you experience misfire, surging, stalling etc there must be a reason beyond just a IC swap, assuming correct installation, no air leaks etc.

There are far cheaper ways to remap any subaru impreza than that though!!!
What if you're stuck with a unmapable ecu and you need to replace. I know there are apexi ones but some versions are limited. I know it was a bit of an exaggeration though.

Yes, people are stupid. The modern day clientèle of Subaru owner is now lower than of previous years so you expect more questions about dump valves, stickers and the like of your above miniature rant
just because people dont know a remap is needed doesnt mean they are stupid. Just tell them why , and be on your way.
Before i had a scoob , i had a 1.4 Focus which i fitted an induction kit to. Ran it for 2 years with not even a thought of a remap. Now , i had no reason to think i couldnt do the same with the scoob until i asked about which one was recommended for it and i was told it would need a remap. End of story.

No impreza ECU is un-mappable, despite what many people think/read.
