Working hours
Some of the SNet members do appear to work some loonnnggggg hours, all kinds of complicated shift patterns & some even hold down more than one job.
Then you have to look after the car, family, wife/partner & eek out the time to live a little.
I don't know how you do it, is Respect!! the right word to use?

Thanks for the respect but I reckon pity is the appropriate word
Another 65hour week this week although thats including breaks and a bit of waiting time (hgv driver).
To be honest when you've got a family, mortgage ect most people just crack on and do it, scoobies cost pennies to run compared to children

As someone that has worked ridiculously long hours I respect the people with families doing it because they need to, but if you don't need to I don't reccomend it at all, you miss an awful lot of time with family and friends and no amount of money will get you that time back. It's frankly stupid unless it is necessary and its also proven to give less life expectancy and higher risk of stress and poor health.
Don't mean to preach or anything just my opinion from being in that situation.

I work 1 week on 1 week off and love it!
Plenty of overtime always available if I want to earn a few extra pennies on my 'off' week.
Can only really afford to do it cos I'm single and paid my mortgage off, dont see the point in working full time if you don't have to... life is made up of time not £££££.

4x12 hour days on, 4 days off, 4x12 hour nights on, 4 days off.
At one point I worked the above pattern and slotted a second job electroplating on all my days off for about 3 years. Kicked that into touch when I purchased a Porsche for cash
After that used to do 2 days a week overtime and the money was amazing. Am easing back now as kids have left home, the two flats rented out are paying the mortgage on the house, and the tax man has lowered the 40 percent threshold
Agree with the above, only do it when it is necessary or if you have a plan. I am retiring in 6 years at the ripe old age of 55, to make up for all the overtime over the last 18 years. Before that I was in the RAF which was an easy (and enjoyable) life to be honest

Probably fit this category minus the extra job. Freelance lighting technican/rigger, don't get home much due to touring which is a 7am-2am day for 3-4 months at a time. The only way I could afford the car in the first place to be honest. Getting tougher being away now as the other half's father has just been given 6 months or less to live (cancer) so like to get home when I can, not an easy task to balance.

I have worked shifts more or less for 27 years from single shift to a four shift pattern. No complaints also not had a sick day in the last 15 years. I admire anyone who takes the effort to drag their a$$ out of bed at what ever time and for how ever long, to do a days work to provide for themselves and family. We the backbone of the UK and all need a pat on the back from time to time,,,,,,, but our government just dream up ways to take our cash and give it to the ones who chose not to drag their a$$ out of bed.
