Default MY00 OS remap, in the pipeline?

Is there any chance of the MY99/00 cars being able to take open source remapping in the near future? I remember years ago talk of it coming, is it ever you going to happen?

I'd like our UK car done but want to see if it can be done for economy and obviously the huge price of ecutek might not make the savings worthwhile. My mrs pootles about in it would be nice to see whether economy can be gained

I know very little on this but i've recently been told that you can get an ESL daughter board for my car - A V4 sti for a third of the price of a simtec.

I think you might also be able to buy a second hand apexi and have that mapped which would be a lot cheaper.

I believe slowboyracing which come highly recommended on here is near you. Might be worth giving them a call.

Hopefully someone can confirm or deny the above soon though.

No chance James. The big driver for os came from the states, unfortunately they didn't sell your car there......

Yep, I'm aware of the power fc (had one on my old type r) but still too expensive all in. Plus the uk has immobiliser which I don't want to lose.

Bugger. Sure someone planted the seed on here a long time back. Why can't some clever person sort it?

I believe there is a French company that can offer mapping software for late classics other than ecutek, however it's roughly the same price and not quite as good.

If your trying to do it on the cheap then hunt down an ecu that already has the license, that way you'll only have to cover the mapping cost and initial price of ecu. I've seen them sell on here very cheap before, you just need to be patient.

Mr B. is bang on the monehs here. Bought an already mapped ECU for £140 and had Bob Rawle (who owned the license) put a fresh map on. £420 altogether and below results in signature

There you go, mapping on a budget. Can't beat it

And with some waiting and hunting youll find an ecu for nearer £100.

Interesting.

Are you pioneering this, or you know of it?

Working very closely with the guys at ESL that have been developing this and will be beta testing soon with a test mule car down here.

Good stuff. So I take it its not just for MY00, would be MY99 too? Would it also include the Foresters?

MAFless on a late classic would be good! Twin maps a bonus. C'mon, get it done!

I will be straight on to you Duncan when this comes out, typical that it just after I convert to the newage maf and ecutek that this comes to light!

Hi Duncan,
Any idea if this is gonna cost same as ecutek or cheaper? As I'm about to get my late classic mapped soon, like in few weeks.
Thanks

Would imagine it to be cheaper than the ecutek as your not paying for the licence fee for a start

It's just that I was gonna buy a mapped ecutek ecu and get it mapped to my car as the £550 + vat I think is too much for mildy tuned classics.

Plenty of mappers do mapping around £500 inclusive of vat. £660, is that including rolling road time too? Mine is road mapped but will be sorted (have an ongoing hesitation issue) on Scoobyclinics rolling road

No rolling rd.I've had quotes of £650 Inc vat.I think it's too much, plus the fuel pump.Don't get me wrong I ain't a cheapskate I look after my car with the very best products but that much money to map a 12 yr old car is too much.Especially since I got clamped for £450

You can fit the fuel pump any time. It's not a massive task (although I'm crap with a soldering iron so Alcazar helped me there ).

Onto the map, an already ECUteked ECU would be around £140-150 delivered. Then the map would be around £300. The inclusion of VAT is where the difference can come in as it's a 20% difference as you know. That's where it is worth looking at the overall cost and is it cheaper.

As an example, my ECUteked ECU was £140, plus an inclusive price of £280 for a fresh map on said ECU with the license paid for. So a fully inclusive price of £420. Then you have the price of £550+ VAT making it £660 which is around 50% more. BUT then you may find a mapper who charges £500 or so all inclusive.

That's not a bashing on what mappers charge as obviously people are happy to pay mappers this money and will have preference (before the thread goes THAT way). My Impreza is 13 years old, needs a clutch soon and has the typical arch problems creeping in so I totally get you with regards cost in comparison to car value. Just like I wouldn't buy a cheap car, spend £1,000's on it to sell it. I'd keep it for the investment.

As the open source develops, I may take interest in future cars but there's not much point in my current Impreza. And I was/are very happy with my mapper of choice.

Andy
