Default ABS light on pedal goes to floor

Hi all have a problem with my classic scooby 1999 abs light has come on and the pedal goes to the floor but still stops just if I press pedal while driving then press again straight after goes pedal goes hard with no fading then drive a bit further same thing straight to the floor!!! Abs def is not work as all 4 wheels will lock up under hard braking is this likely to be abs pump thanks guys

Sounds like the brakes need bleeding if you can pump the pedal up or you have a nackered wheel bearing and suffering from 'pad knock off'.

Why would that bring abs light on and abs not work? There are no wheel bearing noises or knocks car drives fine does not pull to left or right cheers

Have you had any work done on the brakes? What does the pedal do with engine switched off? Does sound like a bleeding issue. But unless work has been done air shouldnt be able to get into the system.

To check abs fault code I had to go to a Subaru dealer (£40). And yes it did cause a strange kind of brake fade on my05sti I got away with cleaning the wheel sensor, easy fix
