Thinking of selling - Pistonheads or Autotrader?
Hi folks,
Think the time has come to sell the Scoob as I just won't be using it enough now I have some German muscle in the garage.
Haven't sold a Scoob for years so which site is the best bet - Autotrader or Pistonheads? Sold my Jag on Pistonheads easily enough so leaning that way, but just wondered what anyone else thought?
Thanks in advance!

Stick a classified ad on ebay and another on here as well. Cheap and chearful. Always had interest from ebay punters if the description, photos and price is right. And on here the more knowledgeable and enthusiastic potential scooby owners will see it.

Not selling it on here for 3 reasons:
1) the for sale police that feel the need to pick apart every ad on here despite having no intention of buying the car and in some cases not even owning a Scoob in the recent past
2) a few people on here have a hard on for me so will just spam the thread like the one in the gallery!
3) too many scammers on here and the problem doesn't seem to be being addressed IMO!

Regardless of where you advertise you will get timewasters.
I predict a ranting thread some time soon when this happens
And if you think SN has too many scammers....better avoid gumtree and ebay!! They don't just have a scammer problem, there's a smogasbord of theives ready to ruin your day (and bank balance).
Remember that thread on here about someone's car being stolen recently(ish)?...guess where his car ended up five days later...well, parts of it at least. Yes, EBAY! (we had to remove the thread from SN as to not spook the seller pending police action - presuming the plod even bothered. ).

Can't see how you can be scammed on an ebay classified ad as long as you only take cash, don't meet in the middle of nowhere etc.
Last time I used Pistonheads all I really got was Chavs wanting to swap their knacked , poorly body kitted unfinished asthmatic corsas, cavaliers and various other dross, with cash in THEIR direction FPMSL
Autotrader getting blooming expensive too.
Good luck.

SaraSqaures had her car stolen in a similar manner via advert IIRC...buyer and his mate went to look at it, one distracted her, other grabbed the keys.

Fair enough, but not selling it on here will at least save you guys from clearing up the thread of all the off topic coments from the usual suspects that will no doubt see fit to post all over it

There are many ways; One is simply turn up at your house with an accomplice, threaten you/your family etc demanding the keys. Bye bye car.

Fair enough (and my sympathies to SaraSquares), but it's not exactly an ebay classifieds specific scam, could just as likely happen if you place an ad in the local free press/autotrader/pistonheads.
And this sort of theft has been happening for decades before ebay or the internet was even heard of. Take the usual precautions. Meet at your home in daylight, have a couple of mates on hand with another car, have less than a quarter tank petrol in the car that's for sale, have the buyer deposit the cash at the local bank so they can detect the fakes etc. Been doing it this way for years and never had any bother.
Point I was making was you are less likely to run into trouble with an ebay classified than an ebay auction where the paypal and feedback systems can be abused. Although I have sold cars this way with no bother either, but the listings and the fees are far higher than a straight classified that attracts the same level of interest. And the Autrader fees are astronomical.
The only truly safe way is to take the paltry sum a reputable dealer will offer you, but who wants to do that?

I sold my old car back in September,
Advised the car on pistonheads, Gumtree and on here. Sold it on here after a short period of time to a guy in Sweden.
I would say the most important thing is to have a really good ad with good quality pictures and to be realistic with the price. I had no negative comments on my ad on here
My current car I got through an ad on Gumtree
