Default New shape STI

Been looking at getting scooby and this one has caught my eye. Im not really clu'd up on scoobies as yet

here's the car

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...:X:RTQ:GB:1123

Now had bit of read on this thread and posted up

https://www.scoobynet.com/828990-200...ilures-26.html

Ive spoke to the seller and the cars had no recalls that he knows off and there's nothing in service history about any recalls. Car's got full subaru service history btw.

Was just bad batch engines or are all prone to failing? or Down to PPP map or not right fuel?

Anyone shed any light on it?

Cheers in advance

i think what caused the failures was a bad map from factory, thats what ive been told, going by that the prodrive map should be fine, its also when you start to push the engine for power the internals are not the strong

Prodrive maps fail as much as the standard maps (if not more). Lots written on this subject but my conclusion is its just a bad all round package. If you are buying then best to budget for failure at some point.

Sad and crazy to have to think like this but that's the reality.

Both tbh, I opted to have mine custom mapped as did not feel confident in the oe subaru map, even the updated one, much safer and a more power to.

Mines an 08 and I've had for 3 years now with no issues, but do obey the golden rules:

only use 98+ fuel
let warm up/ cool down
stay away from the redline
oil change every 6 months
check oil regulary
yearly service
had it mapped sensibly and kept below 350

Looks a good car though.
