Of course they were version they came out of the same factory!

Just because some were built with different trims and spec does not mean they were still not the same variant version!

The phrase 'version' is applied to the STI only, it denotes which model STI you have. 1,2,3,4,5 or 6. It's not based on model year, UK cars are given a MY number based on model year.
So, if you don't have a classic STI it is not classed as any version, classic JDM cars were given a series letter, A being the earliest.

However, it is quite normal for imprezas of any age or shape to be given a version number as its commonly recognized.

A 98 uk car is a version 4 and I will not hear other wise!

Versions being specifically to STI is rubbish they were still the 3rd 4th 5th version of the impreza just that the STI's were a year a head in spec trim etc.

So what version would a 1992 (a series car) wrx be, remembering the word 'version' didn't appear until the release of the very first STI, that being 1994 (b series car)

When they made the 1st impreza that was a v1 it's not hard is it! Don't get caught up in Subaru's marketing hype!

A mark 4 cortina was a version 4 if you want to apply the same rules.

If a newbies asks what version his car is no need to spit hairs its a version 4!!

Surely that's a version 3? What makes you think it's a 4 because the dash gives it away?
