Keevil airfield - my first track day
So I finally lost my (track day) virginity this weekend at keevil airfield for my 25 birthday pressie :-)
I was accompanied by a friend of mine (in a civic type r) and his mate who have been previously of which coached me and gave me useful tips etc...
The weather was perfect for driving... Cold but sunny/cloudy and dry!
It was the last the event at that circuit this year so there was a good turnout! I've never seen such a large amount of middle aged blokes in caterhams!!!
I did expect to see more fast road cars about but tbh the majority of them were stripped and caged track slags which arrived on trailers... Surprisingly I was the only one with a scooby
Anyway enough of me going on... My mate managed to squeeze his phone inside the hole in the bucket seat and recorded me going around... The track is quite punishing on the brakes (braking from 100 4/5 times per lap) and I found that after a few laps my brakes were completely shot (you'll notice I lift off and brake early on every corner because otherwise I just won't stop lol)
Thanks for watching... Now I've got the bug I'll be getting some new brake fluid and pads before I go next year
Thanks
Ash

I've never been on an airfield track day, seems weird to me, i'd be afraid that i'd be concentrating on driving and miss a cone, looks like theres plenty of room if you get it wrong though.
Older = Wiser, hence the older guys having dedicated track slags, and rear wheel drive = fun.
There are always one or two at the end of any track day with broken cars, weather it be from mechanical or driver failure.

Saw your post on CS this morning Ash, looks like a lot of fun
I think I'm too scared to take my baby on a track - but an airfield track would definitely be the way I'd go until my confidence is up.

I did Keevil back in September, was the first track day I've done and actually got the max from the car, loads of run off just in case. The other days i've done were at the likes of Coombe & Mallory, so plenty of barriers to hit lol.
Re your brakes, I had similar issues at Mallory, that was with the following fitted to my Bug WRX @ 350bhp :
Gold Brembos all round,
Stock discs,
Bluestuff pads all round,
Braided hoses and
I think Motul 5.1 fluid.
This setup faded really badly.
The only change I made for Keevil was to flush the brake fluid and replace with "Performance Friction Racing RH665 Brake Fluid". Was the best thing i've done, no fade, plenty of feel. I was doing 15-20 min sessions all day with approx. 20-30 min breaks between. Not once did I think I wouldn't stop.
I didn't slow enough on the odd occasion but that was me being to ambitious on the brakes lol.
