Default Rear window trim rippling...PICS UP!

Hi all,

And hope you all had a great xmas - sure is some good pressies flying around!

Ok, WRX STi Spec D 07/07.

There is a roof trim which goes along from the top of the windscreen all the way along to the bottom of the rear windscreen.

The passenger side is fine, but the drivers side, from where it meets the top of the rear screen has recently rippled.

It's happening all the way down to the bottom of the rear screen. I'll try to get some pics up when the rain stops.

I can just about see what looks like a couple of connectors - maybe radio aerial and heated element connectors?

I think one is green and one is pink? Cant quite recall.

But it's the two edges of rubber either side of the main strip which have rippled. I'm hoping it's not got hot etc and caused this. One rubber edge touches the glass, the other touches the C pillar.

I can't feel any wet / dampness anywhere in the back / boot.

It's only happened over the last few months, and wasn't like it when I bought the car.

I'm just a bit concerned as this rippling has happened on the side of where I can see connectors, and I don't think it's down to perishing as the rubber edges feel supple.

Hopefully any water that's getting in there should still run down to the boot seal and out in the usual way.

Matty

Would suggest it's something that has been used to clean the car, although it could be the trim has come loose..

All electrical connections would be made from the inside so the pink blocks are trim retaining clips which may have broken??..........

Thanks Don, good link.

That's put my mind at rest that nothing electrical is in any way exposed. Tomorrow I'll gently try and lift the rubber edges to see what's going on.

I may have to simply replace the trim if nothing is broken as it doesn't look too good - now I know it's there, I keep looking at it.

One thing I did do was to superglue a very small tear in the seal, near the top on the C pillar side. And it's been happening since then - maybe a coincidence.

Surely just a tiny amount of superglue wouldn't have caused this? The tear was perhaps 1cm max and I had to hold the two torn edges together with a tooth pick until the glue set!

I doubt it's the superglue.

Did have an occasion with a new car that wahatever was used to clean/de-wax on arrival caused the wiper blade rubbers do the same thing.

However looks more like the clips are not doing their job................

Perfect, thanks again.

Gives me a good insight into how the molding is attached.
I wonder if I'd be better off getting a bodyshop to do this?!

Terrible UK trim mate. Just you wait until the rest of it falls to bits.

Should have got a JDM model instead!
