whats a broken scooby worth?
little strange this tbh,
basically i recently bought a fully working classic sti in silver,
completely stock
unfortunately was recorded damaged in 2009 but was back on the road after 3mnths being repaired.
the car has just had a refurbed set of front 4 pots,
has exhaust
filter
few lamco gauges
it has since just started to leak water into chambers, didnt over heat but got warm 3/4 on temp gauge and blew hold and cold through the heater.
i since carried out sniffer test and it failed
so basically genuine subaru jdm sti, in reasonable condition just needs headgaskets doing.
just put uprated pump in it, fuel filter, new plugs!!
was just about to do oil etc before it went.
Bug eye newage alloys
whats it worth as it stands??
cheers guys

I brought my v4 sti 1998
For just over a grand with rattling shells.
They don't hold cash well. Best to do heads and sell it on...
But when you've done it I bet you won't sell it

Unless it's a very high spec car running big BHP they are worth very little in good order, so as is it's worth next to nothing. Unless you want to sell for next to nothing you need to repair or break it, & if you are looking to sell you won't be able to justify the cost of a proper repair.

Haha voltures
Just weighing up what to do tbh,
Now the cost of repair and to get the power I'm wanting out of the engine it would be far cheaper to do this rb25 conversion I was seriously thinking of doing.
On the other hand I was thinking just sell as is and cut my losses,
Trouble is the car is accident history anyway so that doesn't help,
I mean realistically what's it worth as it stand in £££
We talking 500 or we talking nearer 900??
Decisions decisions

It runs absolutely fine, you could drive it away.
The head gasket is only just starting to go!!
It hasn't over heated, just misses a bit up the top of the rev range
Can't stress how frustrating its been lol

Potential problems it may have??
It's one of the cleanest i have seen tbh, not rotten drives straight and handles very well.
Only issue is head gasket
Can see the rb conversion looming lol

Then your just throwing money at it which will probably be worth more than the car in the end and when you come to sell it with it being cat registered you will sell it for under it's value anyway as to why the best idea financially would be to break and buy another one

This is true, but I want something different, and not in this to make money,
Just want something to play with on weekends tbh,
The ej will not supply the reliability I'm after at my power goals so the rb seems to be best bang for the buck
The conversion isn't a small task though but think it will pay off in smile factor when finished.
Mmmmm

Problem is it'll need a full strip & rebuild with new shells as bare minimum as well as the head gaskets. As you can imagine the cost for a specialist to do this is quite considerable. A classic STI can be bought for under 2k in good condition, so your only viable options are to give it away for peanuts or break it. However if you love the car rebuild it to a high spec, increase the power & keep it forever.
