Right it has to be:

Flash, but not too Flash

Fast, very fast

Preferably new or nearly new

Sexy

Sound nice

Handle like a dream

Grip like a French ****** fist

Be between £15000-£28000

Be desirable

Not run only on SUL

Any ideas?

Cool

What about a Nova?
Flash (scooby bonnet scoop,)
very fast (a squillion extra BHP from a cone filter,)
Sound nice (with the right zorst)
Handle like a dream (with Koni spenshun)
Grip like a French ****** fist (leaky seals make it smell like above)
Be between £15000-£28000 (save 27900 quid)
Be desirable (everyone with a scoob wants a Nova cos its faster)

Alternatively you could buy a scoob

Jamie,

I have to say it really......"Get a 330 Diesel Sport!" I did, and I've never appreciated a car more. They're fab, and can even do a "leave the Scoobies behind" impression at the Nurburgring .

Thanks Mike but I am 24 so I have to think about insurance although I am considering a EVO7, the P1 will still go for £30000, even though noone wants them and I'll get hamered by tax and petrol on big engined cars, but I suppose u r right, I could go and test drive em all! ;-)

A boxster would be cool though, or a TT , but I think Id get sick of the TT, cos it isnt as good as a Scoob! How much are boxster going for, or 22Bs?

Jamie,

The BMW will never be as fast as the Scoob off the line or maybe top end, but for everyday driving it's up there. Top gear roll-ons from 80 - 120 (officer), it'll pull away from a UK spec scoob!

The BMW has 184bhp and 288ft/lbs of torque. A scoob has 215 bhp and 215ft/lbs as standard.

They do 0-60 in 7.5 secs and about 143mph flat out. And they return 40mpg average. The 6 cylinder motor sounds ace too, with a slightly gruff edge to it.

You really should try one

year old lotus exige ? you didnt mention practicality...

if you're thinking about a boxster, then maybe a honda s2000 is worth looking at.

Give us some more to work with - do you need comfort or space ? are you going to commute it ? long journies ? is purely for track days & sundays ?

Do i still have to wait 3 hours before i can go home ?

Thanks lads!

Well I like the sound of the BM, I got rid of an Integra cos It was too raw, but I think with something like an Exige or an Elise you could live with that!

SO I would consider most stuff probably like to keep payment below £500 per month though

The Evo 6 should only be run on SUL, and while the engine is super-smooth to the limiter, I could never say it sounds anything special?

Porsche Boxster isn't really that fast (never driven an 'S'), IMO not worth the money.

A car I would definitely consider is the BMW M Coupe. You'll get a V or W reg within budget, BMW straight 6 sounds superb, looks flash, superbly built, kicks most things into touch speed wise. Steering not super-quick was the only gripe I had when I test drove one.

Jamie,

I can also recommend the BMW ZM Coupe. I test drove one a few weeks ago. Boy did it move. Post 80mph it pulled a lot harder than my UK MY97. The one I test drove was 'W' reg, 25,000miles (high I know), all extras and the BM dealer wanted £27k for it. If I was interested I am sure with haggling I could get it for a lot less than that. Try one out...321Bhp and NO traction control. A little hairy, but so well composed.

I am still going for a P1 though!

Well, I just got a Nogoro blue S4 avant and it's pretty darn good, though in need of a quickshift and and some work on the induction so I can hear that engine better. Its got pimp-tint windows and big-**** OZ wheels. 265bhp and 300ft/lb, with another 50bhp pretty cheaply. 2 years old but you wouldn't know it from driving it. And the thing costs me £400 a year less that the 22B to insure.
However, I'll always grab the 22's keys for any trip consisting of less than 2 hours on the motorway LOL.
I test drove:
bmw 330, alfa 156 v6, passat v6 awd thingy, mundeo st200 , Legacy rsk(?) (never has 280 bhp felt like less ) none really suited. Evo 6 TME was great, but not different enough from the 22 to justify having both.
Couldn't get hold of an accord type r, but now i've got all this torque I think honda wudda pee'd me off in the end.
If I hadn't needed the seats I wudda looked at a new Elise though.
How about a Forester and a jetski?

Not sure about your last requirement but a used TVR Cerbera/Chimera/Griffith would satisfy the rest quite nicely. (Just keep some money back for maintenance !)

Oops - just spotted the grip requirement - nevermind.

Perhaps Porsche Boxter then although I'm not sure about very, very fast more like just very fast I would say.

Did a track day at Goodwood a couple of months back and there was a guy with boxster s who totally flew. Fastest thing on the track. I was suprised as i'd never really rated them that highly; but they've definatly got the potential to shift.

Biting my tongue here, but two of the BM's quoted here would fit the bill nicely. I really like the M Coupe (I reckon that might be my next car in a couple of years) - goes like stink - nothing else looks like it and it has a glorious engine that makes great sounds when you floor it.

Matt's 330D was a total revelation It is a stunning car and very well sorted (if you go for the Sport version like Matt's). Great 'Q' car - people just don't expect a diesel to go like that (and I think Matt did the entire run to Nurburg on less than a tank of gas ).

TT is very nice, but I'm not so impressed after leaving a 225 bhp one for dead on the M40 this afternoon.

Cheers

Chris

Dont go for a Boxster - unless its an 'S'..
Too slow - I used to have one, but like driving a fast(ish) Merc...... And an 'S' will not fit into your budget.......
M3 - yeah OK - quick, but just wait for a Service No.2 -------OUCH ! - £600......
If you want something fast, and decent servicing costs, under a warranty, nearly new, and less than £28K---> it HAS to be a secondhand P1. Believe me - I contemplated exactly the same thing. BMW's - lovely build quality etc, but not exactly unique on the road eh ??

Good luck,

Gastro

6 months ago I drove a 6 month old (W-reg), 7000 mile M Coupe at a BMW Dealer. It was up at £29,995 which the dealer admitted was negotiable. I would expect there to be lots in the price bracket now. Servicing wasn't too expensive at all, more like £200 for the second service rather than £600.

Gastro, I think you are confusing the M coupe for an M3. The M coupe is the 2 door, 2 seater coupe based on the Z3, and they are vary rare.

Mr collier........
M3,MZ3, MZ Coupe...... the servicing costs are the same......they *all* have the same engine. I got a full print out from Sytner BMW (Leicester) for standard serving costs for it.....Service II is in XS of £480 BELIEVE me........£200 is an understimate for serice I.....
The problem with E36 full stop has been the high maintenance cost (especially 6 cylinder models with VANOS). I ran a 320i coupe many moons ago and didnt get much change out of £300 for a major service. They *are* expensive & probably the reason for poor residuals on them.......£19K for an M3 - hope it wasnt very old......

I know the 3.2 M series engine is shared. I was just quoting what the BMW dealer told me when I enquired about costs after the test drive.
