You are right, get a turbo. You will not be doing yourself any favours by buying a turbo replica. Chances are it been driven by owners who thought it has the power of a turbo. A good maintained turbo will not give any problems at all. Remember you are looking at a 10-11 year old car so problems will creep in regardless of turbo or non.

How do you maintain a turbo as such? Do you mean just regular oil changes and warm up / cool down etc?

I meant turbo as a turbo car not 'turbo' as in the part/

gotta agree with d4vidh,

However check the arches (rear) if possible use a magnet see if they have been filled rather than replaced.
Listen for wheel bearing noise or whining rear diff.
Also keep eye on the temp gauge anything over half way and there MAY be a problem.

To be honest as it aint a Turbo impreza I would look out for normal things you check on any other car. I am sure there will be more things to look for but most are common sense,

I have used impreza turbos daily for 6 years and must say most reliable cars I have ever owned. Don't think I could go back to mainstream ford or vauxhall again. As long as you look after them they reward you with reliability and driving fun, I had a wrx then a jdm sti and both have been superb and yes they are good in the snow as long as you drive sensible

Most important on these cars is regular oil changes using a decent oil. that goes for turbo and non turbo models
