How can I find out what the whuuuuuring noise is coming from the backend of my bug, I can't tell if it's the left or right side, but it's pretty loud and starting to annoy me.
Could anyone help please?

Diff? Can you get the wheels off the ground and get the wheels moving? Someone in the back with the windows open?

Well that's what I thought but i don't think it coming from one specific side.
Again how would I determine if it is the wheel bearings?

Make sure your Tyre pressures are the same and Tyres same size as this can cause noise as well.

Cheers there all the same, will there be movement in the wheels if it's the bearings? And also how can you determine if it's the diff that's the problem?
I have a bugeye sport So haven't got DCCD.

I might sound stupid but could it make a noise if the tread patterens are different?

Yes and you can also get tyre noise which people often mistake for bearings, run your hand around the tyres, if you have high spots then that's more than likely your issue, the tyre distorts over time causing it to get high/flat spots on them causing the noise

I'd go wheel bearing , does it change when you turn , If you turn left its the right and vice versa

Rotate the rear wheels to the front and vice versa, If the noise moves it tyre related, if not more than likely bearing as said above

The rear pads do need changing which is a job for next weekend there's only a couple of mm or so...
Hopefully will sort the noise as it's really quite loud and annoying now

Pads have a metal tag on them that scrapes on the disc when there worn out. If you know there worn this is the place to start

Well I am changing them anyway but don't thing this will solve the whuuuring noise...
We will see what next weekend brings
If it is the diff as a few people iv spoke to have said it could be, does anybody have any idea of the cost to replace

I was pretty sure it was my diff , the noise seemed central , but it was both wheel bearings
And even though there was no play they still rumble

Like a wu wu wu wu wu wu wu noise

See you even get sound effects on here lol

How much of a coincidence that they go on both sides at around the same time though

Well in theory they should go around the same time , but one of mine was a lot worse than the the other
I had some spare hubs so I changed the worse one first then carried on running it until the other went totally ( wheel wobble like a clown car )
I would say it did around 3/4k miles from the start of rumble to collapse
Not the best way to run you're car but like I say I had spare hub assemblies

Have you tried loading the rear bearings and noticed a more pronounced noise or different noise
Pick either a wide clear straight road or nice curve ( smooth as poss )
And swerve smoothly left and right ( no need to go fast or mad )
And listen for any change in the noise

It changes slightly when I turn right I have noticed that ,but when going straight I can't tell if its either the left or right side, or both .
It gets louder as I go faster though

It sounds like rear passenger side is the worse , if its getting progressively worse especially on turning it deffo sounds like wheel bearing ( possibly both )

Well I'm going to do both sides anyway now but still my question is ,..is there any way of knowing weather it's the diff or wheel bearings? Or is it jus trial and error really?
Because I'm looking at £100 for parts and around £50 labour depending on time.
Then if its not that then onto the diff which will be a bit more

Like said above , get it off the ground and listen to the diff ,
But it does sound like bearings , how many miles are on the car ?

There is 90k on the car and no proof of them being done on paperwork with the car an I have a lot datin back to 2003 so they are probably due a change anyway pal

It's quite possible , run it a little longer and in time it will become quite clear if its the bearings , just be prepared
