Well I know the newage 2.5 motors have a problem with the pistons because I have just changed all the internals of mine due to this.

If it's the same, don't go over 1.35 bar or much more than 340bhp.

Vf28 on a standard 2.5 bottom end made 355 and 380lb/ft would expect similar. That was at 1.3 bar I think if I remember right. That same bottom end has had a 20g slapped on it and now an md555 and still going strong so just make sure you look after it and don't go silly with boost and should be OK with any luck

If i were you i would save a little longer and fit forged pistons ARP studs and cosworth stopper gaskets before fitting the engine.

nice looking car.

Tend to find sometimes they make less power than if it were a 2litre but lots of torque or if the turbo wastegate cannot flow the extra exhaust gas away you get slightly more power like Chrispy200+ did on his.. but either way the torque is fantastic.

true mate,,its got the uprated head bolt kit,all seals and gasgets done,2.5 bottom end,i no it be stronger with forged pistons and rods,,but im only looking for 320- 350bhp max really,as it wasent slow before,,the vf24 turbo and short ratio gears makes it quite nippy tbh with no lag really,,so good for the road and towns down here,,im only 1 field away from anglesey race track 2 ;],,so might even have a quick go on the track with it,,not a thrashing tho,,just a quikish drive ;] i do NOT want it to brake again lol
+ who can mapp my car when i get the engine fited ??????
im on anglesey north wales

Power I've quoted was before Simon started mapping the car

You may fine your gearbox a limiting factor in how much power you achieve anyway but as a point to note, Subaru dont rate standard STi pistons over 300bhp.Surprising as they produce the 340R with the same pistons. I had #2 and #4 break at 350bhp but im not sure the standard 5 speed box is much good over that anyway.
You will enjoy the torque of the 2.5. You can drive very quickly with next to no revs.

Dont know about mapping up your neck of the woods. I always use Bob Rawle but he is in Swindon. It will also depent on whether you want to go o/s or ecutek. Isn't Andy carr up your way? no experience with him personally though. Its worth travelling the extra miles to have an experienced respected mapper imho.

Depends on the year, I think the only classic mappable ecu is the Version 6(My99-00) with EcuTek?

If yours is an earlier model it will either need an ESL board,Simtec,Apexi etc...

Cheapest option is more than likely the ESL daughterboard, Then the Apexi then the Simtek/Alactek, ESL you might have to buy new but the others can be picked up 2nd hand
