Convert classic to hawkeye???
Ok so i have recently bought a classic impreza for a bargain price of £180. A project in deed. I am basically going to strip this car back to nothing and start again with the vision of putting it on the track when completed.
My question is how easy would it be to convert the front and rear body of a classic in to a hawkeye?
This may be a mad question and an even madder thing to do, but i just want to know what you think. Could it be done??
I used to have a blobeye and was going to convert that to a hawkeye, but that is not a big job. I think this may be bigger than what i think. I am obviously aware that bumper lights, wings and bonnet would be needed as a minimum.
I have a welder and panel beater as friends who are willing to help.

I would use oem parts front and rear and re shape existing panels to run in to the newer hawkeye panels. This car has been bought as a project. car is in generally good nick believe it or not. There is a team of 6 of us involved in car.

well good luck ive never seen it done before and finding it hard to think what a classic would look like with hawk headlamps, would you been doing a engine swap because i bet the new front end will free up alot of extra space in engine bay

wasn't thinking of an engine swap and tbh it is just an idea at the moment. I obviously don't want to do it if its gonna look crap.
I was wondering if anyone had done anything similar. I have seen a bug converted to a blob and that looked good and a blob to a hawkeye and couldnt tell.
I know there some differences from a classic to a newage, just an idea??? I like to think outside of the box.

yeh its one of those things though,i mean ive always like the classic look as it is,like the comment above there was a type r converted to a blob and it looked horrid, when you convert a blob to a hawkeye i think thats looks good as the back end of the cars are similar,a classic i think would look very odd, you got and pics of the car in its state at the minute? be intrested to see what a 180 quid scoobie looks like

thanks for your opinion. However i want a project car and fancy doing something different and for the amount of money the car has cost i can afford to try something. Don't think i will get a hawkeye base running for £180??

I didn't want a project that required a bit of elbow grease and a few hundred quid to sort. I want a project. I want to strip the car back to nothing and re build. I was going to put it back to look like an RB5, well as close to that as i can.
I have just been toying around with ideas and mad as it may be this came in to my head.

I currently have an RS focus Mk2 so don't need a road car. I had a blobeye before this that did win a couple of shows and miss it dearly. Its just been sold again on ebay. When i got the chance of buying the classic scoob i thought why not. THought put it on the track and have some real safe fun. Budjet is limited for now but by the time i strip it back and repaint the whole car ready to build it back up funds will be available to have some serious fun with the car. I want a project as much as the fun driving the car on track, hence why i want to have a play with the standard car. As it is going to go on track i also played with the idea of shortening the wheel base.
Any ideas are welcome.

Why don't you convert it to a 2 door and cage it , that's quite possible and has been done ,
But not by many ?
Btw I don't mean just weld the rear doors up

Toneh. Welder recommended that. I have got a certified OMP roll cage for £250 notes waiting for me off of one of my mates who owns a garage that looks after rally cars.
Dont get what you mean "Btw I don't mean just weld the rear doors up"

I mean put complete rear quarters on and doors , either try and source s/h steel or could use grp , but if going for grp I would be looking at a substantial weld in cage and a little more strengthening
