70,000 mile service
I'm due a service and just got quoted £230 from my local dealer for a 70,000.
The car is a 2005 sti with 57,000 on the clock. Does this sound about right for the price and what does it involve for that interval.

Should be due a second cambelt? If not definitely its first.
At that price I'd say that's just Engine oil/filter and plugs. I'd be looking at fuel filter, air filter, gearbox and diff oil (same oil) if it was mine. But then I'd be doing it myself so it's all about parts costs.

Cam belt was done at 47,000. This is what I'm thinking. If it is just due oil and filter I may as well do it myself but then I would be missing a stamp. Dilemma!!!

Stamps ain't everything bud, keep all paperwork for records, that's what I do, I ain't paying no silly amounts for a bloody stamp as long as the owner could prove beyond doubt when I buy a car it had been looked after via receipts, paperwork, inspection charts etc then not having a few stamps would be the least of my worries so many of us do It now, times are hard, not everyone can afford to take their cars to a garage, I think as time goes on apart from the newer stuff that needs to go to a garage for warranty then I would say a lot of people will be taking this route to help keep costs down. I would rather use the change from servicing It myself to put fuel in and go for a nice drive

Well when I did the plugs last on my RB5 I took a picture of the engine bay. It had the new and old plugs on top of a peice of paper with the date on. You can clearly see the battery/airbox etc removed and all the leads disconnected. Plus get an invoice for the plugs with a date on.
I'd take that when buying a car anyday

Mine is an 03 STI and due for it's 90k service soon.
From what I can tell from the service manual, you'll need something at least like this:
Oil, Oil Filter and Air Filter every 10k
Brake fluid every 20k
Oil, Oil Filter, Air Filter, Spark Plugs, Gearbox oil, Diff oil, Coolant every 30K
Timing belt every 50k
£200+ For a 70,000 mile service is pricey in my view, especially when it's just an oil and air filter change.

I look after my bug myself. If I don't have the tools to do a job I look at the cost of getting them with regards to how many times I will use the tool and then decide wether to pay to get the job done or DIY it. The cambelt does get paid for as it is quicker.
