Aircon Removal, Worth it?
I have a new project a 2003 GX and wondering if its worth ripping the aircon out as will never be used, is it worth it? How much weight would it shed? and are there any guides to do it?
thanks.
thanks.

If it is not turned on then the electic clutch stays dis-engaged so the pump does not spin, only the outer pulley does. The weight saving could be worth it if stripping out for a track day. Mine was goosed so decided to remove it rather than pay to fix it.

Im not doing much with the car as its a stop gap between turbos, but its still a nice 03 GX just fit some interior and touch up the paintwork.
I know sports are heavy and the aircon is useless for myself just thinking it can only help it a little on its way and take some dead weight out the front.

If you do get rid of your air con the the real acid test will be in about 5-6 months when you're sitting in traffic. You'll either be smiling or you'll be cursing. Personally with our weather, you'll be smiling more often than not!!

If its an 'in between' car then I wouldn't spend any money on it, save it and put it towards your long term car. Plus air con is a positive when it comes to selling (even if it needs re-gassing) - as is keeping it standard.

as above......
i think its a personal decicsion about ripping it out, but if yr only keeping it as a stop gap then selling, most people look for things like air con etc when buying a motor, it one more thing for them to haggle you down on price if its not there....
but hey ,, its your car, do want you want mate

I removed mine - I didn't use it, it was out of gas and I had no plans to sell the car, at least not complete, so for me it was just ballast. Then again, I've also ripped out the ABS, got lightweight buckets and am stripping some other bits and pieces out so it's part of an overall gain

Removed mine in my Hawk
Not as a weight saving measure . But make the engine bay more tidy & a whole lot less cluttered , the only times I miss it is for quick demisting the windows ,

Now I've heard it all! Why not remove the water bottle too and have a squirty bottle at the ready if required

remove something useful for no benefit whatsoever in a road car, complete madness.
if your really bothered about declutering your engine bay fit a fmic not only looks good but adds some power.
