Default Buying advice reliability EJ207

Need some advice on buying a Blobeye STI. Would appreciate your help!

I now read a lot of stuff about scoobies in general. Also every buying guide.
But i have little concerns about the reliability of my chosen engine: The EJ207 (Blob STI).

Yeah it is one of the most reliable engines and yes semi closed deck is quiet bulletproof. But i also read a lot of topics about blown boxers.

I just recently sold my 2JZ-GTE Supra, which i just knew was 100% bulletproof. I also know that i cant compare the 2JZ and the EJ207.
I´m just new to boxers

So my question is:
What is a reasonable maximum milage for buying a sti? I got about 7 grand to spend on a car. Most blob stis are between 50.000 - 70.000 miles. Is that too much for buying one which has been maintained well?!

Greetings
Carsten

I've read good things about Blob STIs. Rear shocks were a known issue but they are hardly expensive. What are you coming from? Anything German or French will make these seem impenetrable.

blob sti 2.0 engines are pretty reliable, its the 2.5 that is sh1te.

mileage shouldnt be a problem if its been maintained well and mapped for any mods

As above. I dont think that the STI blob should cause any significant concerns. Of course there are always bad cars so its impossible to guarantee fault free motoring but as far as doing any research into them I dont think you will find much to worry about. Whats the Petrol costs like with you and do you have 98, 99, 100 RON etc?

Petrol cost for the supra was horrid.
Supra 11 MPG

We got up to 102 RON. Standard is 95 98 100 102.
Cost is aprox.:
98 = 1,36 GBP/l
100 = 1,43 GBP/l
102 =1,48 GBP/l

dont expect a sti to do much more mpg than your supra m8 unless your going to drive it like miss daisy
i average 130 miles from a full tank of v-power

your fuel is a bit cheaper than over here

130 miles to tank is ludicrously low.

it is moded a little 450bhp

when it was 340bhp ish i would get about 170 miles a tank

but even near standard sti's can struggle to get 200 miles per tank

unless driven slowly and where's the fun in that

Roughly the same price as ours but with the option of going even high ron. That would be interesting. Do you see any difference in performance between 98 and 102?

Hm, maybe with the right mapping for it yes.
Dont know about the scoobies self programming/learning octane regulation. Would be interesting to compare 98 and 102

Not so much the engine thats the problem, it's making sure that things like the maf and fuel pump are fresh, maf's tend to have a life of around 60,000 and i'd stick a new fuel pump in just to be safe as most will be original and 7yrs old.

Engine's are pretty bullet proof if well maintained, quality oil, regular changes of between 3/5,000 miles dependant on the life it leads, i'd also do cambelt, oil and water pumps just to be safe on a car that age.

The engines don't just let go for no reason, it's usually some sort of fuel related issue or one of the pumps.

Nice Info! Thanks!

After buying my new toy the regular maintenance will be done.
Besides Oil, filters, fluids etc. i will also be changing the fuel pump, injectors (at least testet), plugs and the cambelt.

Upcoming saturday will be the day which decides if i have to open a "new scooby owner" thread

Looking at this one:
http://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/de...l?id=185860017

37k miles
04/2005
Directly from Japan
~11.000 gbp

And thoughts or advice what i should check when visiting the car? (Besides the normal rust etc. stuff)
