Default STI registered as a WRX?

Im looking at getting another Impreza as ive currently got a MK5 Golf GTI,
Im considering a px with a guy who has a UK 2004 STI which looks 100% from the pics etc but he says its on the log book as a WRX?
Also the same on insurance websites etc
I know some of the JDM models get mixed up but is this likely on a UK model?
Just want to make sure its not a modded WRX.
Any sure tell signs?
interior,engine,6 speed box and kit all look correct!

Thats my concern as there is obviously in the region of 2k difference between the two models even if the WRX is proffessionally done.

could either be a conversion by an owner, or it was a **** up at the dvla (not uncommon, mrs was car sales admin for many years and dvla struggled to get it right even when the paperwork was all filled in correctly dealer end). best bet get chassis number and see what it comes back as.

Will the chassis number not just lead back to the vehicle registration-ie what its registered at?

Or take the number to a Subaru dealer and they can confirm it too.

There was more commonality in 2004 than later cars and it is possible to swap stuff over without doing everything, but either way you do want to know.

Ask for the vin off the log book, If it has GDA in it it's a WRX but if it has GDB it's an Sti

Or the applied model code as above.

Just make sure you insure it as an sti if you buy it and not a wrx
