Car-jack Problem Getting too Close to Home - What's being done ??
#1
Sorry to bring this subject up again but it's really getting on my t1ts !!
The son of someone I know was out in Leeds yesterday evening in the Scoob and when returning to his car to go home with a friend was approached by an old Rover with no lights on with 4 'you-know-what's' in it. After flooring it to get away from them he was followed for a few miles until he saw a traffic cop and pulled up alongside him. The following scumbags saw the Police car and made themselves scarce. The Police were informed of what had happened and escorted the Scoob home.
A mate of mine sold his beloved white VW Golf GTI Cabrio Mk1 to someone a few weekends ago. Not the most desireable car in the world as its an old 1984/A with around 150k on the clock, but the new owner was driving into Bradford the same weekend that he bought it and when he pulled up at some traffic lights a car screeched up and four 'you-know-whats' got out, beat the living **** out of him and then left him in the road with no car. It hasn't been seen since.
My girlfriend has been woken in the middle of the night 3 times in the last 2 and a half weeks by the sound of 'you-know-whats' breaking into the jewellers across the road with stolen vehicles. Guess what - they were car jacked from the area only days before.
Only a short while back this sort of thing only seemed to happen in the states and Johannesburg (!?)etc.. then it seemed only to be happening in the big inner city areas like Central London and Birmingham (which was bad enough !) Now its going on everywhere and all the time and two-fifths of bu99er all is being done about it.
In the first case I mentioned why didn't the Police go and follow the Rover ?? They weren't far away. Why is everyone so scared of doing anything about all of this ???
Why are we getting to a stage where the crims are far more powerful than the Police ? It seems scandalous that scum like this make you feel that you can't have something nice and be safe with it !!
grrrrr...
(Edited because I was out until 2am last night and I can't concentrate properly !!)

had some b*****ds tried to nick it 2 weeks ago and had it repaired and those f**ks had the chhek to come back and rip my spoiler 2 days ago on my drive. coppers suggested that i walk around to see if i could find the spoiler, at 3am in the morning!!!
taking no chances now, having cameras and security film fitted.

I agree with you. Sounds as if your friends' son had a lucky escape.
Problem is the law in this country is so screwed up that *if* they had followed that rover the most they could of done is given the driver a producer & searched the car. That, sadly doesnt get the scum off the streets. Its a social problem because, rather than going out and getting a job and struggling to pay a mortgage/rent etc its easier to go swinging their fists about and stealing cars. All you need is a lack of morals.
Far as I can see the police just see it as yet another hassle caused by the public buying desireable cars, they'd rather try and prevent you buying the car than catch the scumbags.

J, what are "You-know-whats"? Is it the "word we are not allowed to say on here beginning with P" and rhyming with a mental sports presenter from years ago, or is it someone of another background

Problem is, car alarms/immobilisers are getting harder to by pass now, so scumbags find it easier just to beat the living daylights outta folk to get what they want, specially mob handed. At the end of the day, to most folks, self preservation's more important than a lump of metal.
Same with houses, easier to break in and nick the keys than to bugger about wasting time sussing out the cars security.

When the scum bags do get caught what happens? Not a lot. If the punishment was hard then maybe they would think twice. Also there is always some do-gooder out there trying to look after these sh*ts, whatever the crime type. I often wonder how do-gooders would feel the day they get mugged, car jacked, burgled etc. - or the judge.
Hairy fairy punishments, small fines - to people who often have nothing and therefore have nothing to loose.
I started working life on £3600 a year in 1988. No one has ever given me a free ride. I have worked my as3 off for 10 years to get into the 40% tax bracket. Why do these sh*ts think I owe them anything? Get a fuc*ing job!
It won't get better till we start and terminate undesirables. Plus make sure their parents are neutered.
Thanks. I feel better now.

Although I totally agree that the situation is really bad, going by what you have told us, what did the "you know whats" do that is illegal? What could the police have done?
All you say is that they drove with no lights on
Maybe this isn't the hole story and it probably was a dodgy situation, but what are you expecting the police to do?
"Hello sir, where you thinking of car jacking that subaru?"
reply "f*ck off pig"
medders (been followed myself and know exactly what its like)

Are "anti hijack" devices not available over there? These are basically immobilisers that kick in x minutes after you pull off unless you push a hidden button. They rearm every time you stop so that if you are hijacked at a robot it will still be active.
As we've seen this unfortunately isn't fool proof as the animals (no insult intended to real animals) often then stick the victim in the boot to disable it if it kicks in or just to kill the person at their leisure.
Hijackings when getting home are also quite "popular".
What about satellite tracking systems?

Living in Central London, I always drive around with the doors locked. There is the risk I might be trapped in the car in the event of an accident, but a risk I'm prepared to take. I also keep a large maglite torch in the car. This is purely to look in the engine bay in the event of a breakdown of course.
Even if they do catch these scumbags, the jails are full of people whose kids bunk off school and golf ball collectors...

DW - Yup m8 - you're on the right track !!
Molds - Couldn't have put it better myself - why should people who work hard to get improve their quality of life be be pulled down by jealous, sick scum like this who think they have a god-given right to everything ??
Medders - There was more to it than that m8 but I'm sure you heard of the **** driving round in old cars bashing nice car drivers.. yup - nothing happened on this occasion - but I wouldn't have stopped and asked them if they saw 5th Gear this week !!
Makes me soooooo mad - especially when a mate of mine told me today that he just got a spedding ticket through from Manchester police (we went over there last bank holiday Monday) for doing 46 in a 40 !!!!
Who are the crims ??

It's a parental/education thing for starters. This government do not care about the value of marriage and the family unit. This was all predicted by the American professor whose surname I forget who said about 10 years ago that the underclass and lawlessness in the USA would find its way here, and lo and behold it has.

Are You know what's related to 'you know who' in Harry Potter...
Worrying developments..
I bought a book called 'drive to survive' a while back and it's basically a defensive driving manual that's used to teach bodyguards etc. Contains about 30 tips for avoiding being car jacked, as well as how to defeat road blocks etc.
Worth the 10 dollars I paid for it.

Jerry, I wasn't trying to defend the sh1tes who do this. I was replying to your line "why didn't the police follow the rover"
Just trying to put "the other side" over - Catching the scum is an uphill struggle in itself these days.
People do try to say - what are the police doing about it (and I'm not saying you have)
People seem to think that the police are some kind of telepathic superhuman instead of ordinary people.
If theres no offence and no evidence they police can't do anything. But if you harass the scum they get complaints galore in this day of Euro rules and PC.
cheers

Did anyone see that 'cops and videotapes' last night?
The cops were on first name terms with the 'joyriders' and most of them got either 6 weeks inside or just probabtion - One ***** rammed a police car trying to escape (tax payers to repair it) and got two years probation - It was his 14th car conviction.

rightly said guys.
only concern is, when it comes to push and shove, what are the implications? eg. they smack us bad, they either escape or even if caught... possible juvenile or suspended sentence and we get stitched up in the hospital (if lucky)
if we manage to defend ourselves, possibility of gbh is imminent. either way, our lives are destroyed by these scumb*gs. what is this place coming to?
but to be honest, i've decided that in a hostile but non violent incident, would probably just let them do it but any indication that injury is intended, no doubts of doing them as well (obviously first choice would be to leg it!!!)

Owner gets car back with wrecked tyres and bashed in body work. Pays insurance excess, inconvenience of body repairs, and get a bigger premium next time around - cheers then!

That programme last night was horrendous!
Two years in jail for a shoplifter, against two years probation for a habitual car thief!
Does the law not recognise varying degrees of criminality?
I say that the sentences should increase in a compound manner, to stop repeat offenders. Say x amount for your first offence, 2x for your second, 4x for your third etc etc....
In the past year, I have had my renault done in a drive by drinking (milkshake down the side), my cossie broken into outside my house (and I almost caught the guys doing it), and my peugeot 306 firebombed (write off - burnt to the ground).
I for one am ******* fed up - what can be done?

I would be all up for some kind of campaign. Unfortunately for all the stress it would end up ignored or brushed under some council carpet.
You know how people speculate that Antivurs authors also write the virus'? I wonder if insurance companies pay backhanders to car criminals?!
This is all too depressing for Friday alvo. I need a beer.

I know the feeling about wanting a beer.. I know this isn't strictly car related as my scoob was at home.. but 2 weeks ago I was knifed in the back of the head in a completely unprovoked attack.. reported to the local police station and was told that where it happened was "not a rough area, it couldn't have happened", and basically got the impression that the officer could not be bothered with the crime.. I'm now left with a 3" scar.. Yet they are spending on 100's of 1000's on more speed cameras in the area.. Now I know speeding is a crime, and cameras are for safety.. but surely there has to be some sort prioritisation and a serious deterrant to the crims when they are caught..
#27
sh*t, you were real lucky to survive that one?! :-o
...and of course if you had turned on the guy, taken the knife off him and stuck him back..
he would be sueing you and you'd be locked up by now too just for good measure!
This is why people take the law into their own hands.
Sucks big time.
Glad you are OK.

I'm all for this campaigning thing guys !!
Do you think it would be worth all of us writing in to the top car mags like EVO etc.. If we get enough interest do you think that they would play ??
not sure what they could do but they must surely have more clout than us lot on here !!?

Off track somewhat, but are these highjackings done by joyriders or professional thieves,I've read a lot on here about cars being stolen but not much about them being recovered, are they recovered or do they just disappear into thin air.
#30
It is a total disgrace all the crime and car robbery in this country. We should do what they do in Saudi Arabia if you are caught stealing…..Chop off there hands!!! This seems to work well as there is a ZERO % car theft rate in SA.
