Think you might find that the inlet manifold won't fit either, you need a v3/v4 inlet manifold and coil packs.

v1-4 use identical head/inlet port spacing so the manifold is NOT an issue..............

fairly sure you may well have to run a v1/2 cam cover to sort but cant recall if they interchange with the v3/4 set-up

The engine builder told me that the v1 won't fit, is there a coilpack conversion I can do to suit this?

V3 & 4 STI use a single coil pack & HT lead set up. I'm sure you can convert to this set up, do a search I'm sure I read it on here. The early coil packs are prone to fail anyway so you may be better with this set up. You may be best to use a V3 or 4 manifold too.

the version 1/2 impreza has square spark plug chambers, the version 3/4 has oval spark plug chambers so im 99.9% sure you cant swap the cam covers over, i have a spare engine with the same rockers fitted and the early coil packs, i will try and get a picture tomorrow.

I would do this but I'm not great with wiring, if I can't find another solution then this may be the way forward

Like i said, ultimately the easy way is to buy a v3 manifold and coil pack, £50/60 for manifold and £20 ish for the coil pack.

Would this mean that i will have to run a 5th injector?
How would it match up with my origonal loom mate,,,, just plug and play....if so then this will be the easy way

Just noticed, they are my old V3 heads off my Type r. looking a bit scratched and battered.

V3 don't have the 5th injector, you may need to do some thing with the coil pack plug, all i can tell you is on the v3 there is one plug that goes into the coil pack that sits on top of the manifold in the centre, you'll also need the ht leads as they are shaped to fit the ovals where the plugs go, presumably to stop water ingress.

Post a pic of the engine loom where it plugs into your coil packs and i'll tell you if its the same.
