Guess the "rally driver"!
He frequents this site.
Knows a bit about Subaru's
Looks like Francis Drake (well he does in that photograph).
Is older than Gods dog.
Used to be (he would probably suggest he still is) a bit of a "driver".

Now I know you've been around since Pontius was a Pilate, but......
How old is that photograph as you're not wearing helmets, unless you're driving between stages.
Shouldn't the photograph be in B&W.

Pontius the pilot
Yeah! l beat him too
That's a PROPER Motoring News Road Rally, back the days when ex works rally cars could be used. All night, maybe 1 or 2 stops for petrol and a regroup then on it until about 5 am usually.
No wimpy helmets, I just wore fireproof underwear with day clothes over the top.
I came 4th on that one if I recall - Flat out all night. Beaten by three of the M N Championship contenders, it just happened to coincide with the two Championships I was in.

You could only get 'slow speed ' film in Black and white I was too fast for that .....They had to use colour film and sometimes even so, I was just a blur.
The bumper sticker on my Legacy says
" the older I get the faster I was "

I caught Bannister one night on a rally in East Anglia He was running 1 minute ahead of us on the road and we could see his lights at a control. I doubled my efforts to catch him and slid into the control all four wheels locked at the last minute.
His bonnet was up. In front of his car was a Blue 3 litre Capri - road car.
From behind his bonnet stepped the biggest Norfolk Constabulary copper you've ever seen.
I tried to explain that I had been making so much noise as I was stuck in 3rd gear and he was having none of it.
He proceeded with red face and loud voice to 'advise ' me that if he saw me anywhere again all night doing more than the speed limit, I was going back to his nick with him in the Capri.
We went home...............

Good old days David I remember Bannister putting his escort on top of a dyke 20 yards in front of a time control as he was trying to with spectators get the car back onto the road his navigator was screaming at him telling him !!!!!!!!! I told you to brake he hadn't taken any notice at all

He was VERY fast, but I seem to recall that he didn't finish that often, there'd just be a hole in a hedge or a wall somewhere on the route.......
Seems the aforementioned copper was so pissed off at me, cos he'd tried to catch Steve with their fastest car [ the 3.0 Capri ] and he left them for dead. When they actually caught up with him he was parked in the control and no evidence to use, as they'd never got that close.
Then I came along and they missed me too...

They sure do, bit of an escort fest these days though *yawn*... Lol, I last did it in 2009, still a very tough event on the car and navigator.
Have a look at Mick's book, it's a part 1 of 2 all about the MN days -

And any more photo's of you in the lanes David?
