I love sleepers :)
My head was saying:
"I'll just overtake this Corsa B then head to my Nans house for a cuppa"
What happened was:
"Have I got past this bleeding Corsa yet?"
Christ on a bike this thing really shifted! I really love being surprised like that, the guy obviously left it looking VERY standard from the back, even had some rubbish dealership sticker in the back window
Don't get me wrong, I did manage to get past but only just. And that's with a 350/330 Type R!
Anybody know some good sleepers? I know a guy who's got a mk1 Fiesta with 2lt zetec on throttle bodies
*Please don't turn this into a "Imprezas aren't brilliant with rolling starts" thread - I think we've seen enough of those
Paul.

My last car was a BMW e36 compact, was a sleeper, m3 alloys only visable mods (for traction).I fitted an e36 3.0 m3 engine and a e30 diff. Was an animal but stripped a set of tyres in a matter of days. Should have kept it. My mate has a nova with a 2.5 v6 engine, again looks nothing apart from the front slam panel missing so the engine can fit, his brother in law has a pug 205 with 406 turbo engine. All 3 of these cars maybe cost less than £1500 each to build, fun to drive, Parts are easy to come across.

I turned a totally standard 1.0 12v corsa into a 2.5v6 a few months ago for a laugh, I did intend to use it for a bit when it was finished but after test driving it and experiencing the way it handled with the big lump in the front and no pas I quickly sold it. It was quite interesting once you got it moving 2nd and 3rd was a hoot!

I had a corsa/ nova accelerate from me quick when I was just about to overtake him after leaving a 20mph zone and hitting a 50mph. He was off like a shot as he was obviously planning it and I was in 4th gear with my missus in the car so not really wanting to play his game. I was just laughing as I thought it was funny.

I came across a Rover Metro a few years back in my Hawk PPP on the M6 between Crewe and Stoke. It was very fast indeed - there was a thread started up a while ago about an amusing advert on fleabay.
My uncle once had a Lancia Thema 8.32, it was fitted with a Ferrari tuned engine and then some aftermarket things, that was a very quick car indeed and looked no different to a run of the mill saloon.

Friend of mine is in the process of building a fiesta with a 2.0 zetec turbo lump going in it with around 250bhp, I just sold my fiesta RS1800, that always used to surprise people a little old fiesta with 130bhp, nothing compared to my impreza now but always used to put a smile on my face

I once owned, in the mid 90's, a 300bhp 4x4 Cosworth powered Opel Manta. Standard(ish) looking and would leave most things for dead. Although I did get my *** handed to me by a Turbo'd Nova

I love the idea of sleepers (or a wolf in sheep's clothing). Why attract attention to yourself with cosmetic adornments when (properly fettled) a squeeze on the accelerator will bring a smile to your face and astonish the herbert behind you?

Trouble is, when the novelty of accelerating away from the odd unsuspecting performance car driver wears off... You're left looking like a tool driving around in a 1.0L Corsa.
I started collecting bits to do a mk3 escort sleeper but after a while just thought wtf am I doing. You'd have to drive round all day to find something to show off to!

Mate of mines got a mk1 golf running a remapped audi S3 engine an running gear, the engines mapped to 270bhp but power to weight is unbelievable. At the mo for fun hes bought a shed lookin seat arosa, hes keepin it like that lookswise but puttin a mapped 20vt motor out of a mk4 golf, when in the mk4 it was runnin 212/290, should wipe the smile of a few faces at the lights

Way back in my Uni days around the Telford area I remember running into what turned out to be a future Max Power cover car.
At the time it was subtly modded yellow Ford Ka...
I made the mistake of revving my stock AXGT engine when next to it at the lights like a ****.... at which point i was introduced to the 450bhp + NOS Cossie power it had. It later had a Puma facelift iirc which was a shame.
Gotta love sleepers.

For anyone who wants a cheap sleeper...:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/sleeper-4f...item4d0b64c2bd
I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist I'm afraid.
My last Opel Manta looked like a cooking 1.8S but made, if I recall correctly, around 185bhp at the crank, so I suppose that might qualify as a sleeper of sorts.

theres a few round my way....
Corsa C, running a 400bhp astra VXR lump, looks standard bar being lowered and has bright yellow alloys lol
Classic mini, looks standard untill you look inside and see its stripepd, caged, and has a hyabussa turbo sat on the rear wheels... (windows are tinted so cant see untill you look in there properly...)
mk5 fiesta zetec s, with a 420bhp mk1 focus rs engine in it...
old square shape ibiza running over 400 bhp
pulsar gtir (not much of a sleeper) untill you hear its running 550+bhp - did the quickest 0-60 at trax last year in the wet, still managed like 2.6 seconds lol
then another which im not sure if youd call it a sleeper, but its a focus ST, looks standard except a big Jamsport sticker down the side, but thats running 500+ bhp....
Ooo also, theres a guy on passionford, im sure he put a koninseigg (or whoever you spell it) engine into an old granada lol

I had an MG ZR with a 2.0 turbo engine that made 281bhp. It was a total handful as I ran it with a Rover 200 diesel gearbox with an open diff. Completely useless in the wet but could keep up with almost anything in the dry.
Was all great fun till this happened...............
