Default Floppy gearshift

The gear shift on my 03 blob Sti is a bit on the wobbly side. The box, gears and all are absolutely fine, but whilst in gear there is a bit of play with the shifter.

Does anyone know of this is a simple case of changing a spring or something, or is it a bit more difficult than that? Would a short shifter cure it?
Cheers for help.......

(The box, gears are absolutely fine) Stop worrying!

By all means look after your motor and be in tune with it, but for me people on here and other car forums worry far!! to much.

Just enjoy your car mate

I have the sameish problem... but I think I'm asking a bit much of my n/a.

Having looked into the shifter mech, it appears thats just the way it is. I've pondered making a custom-type throw shortening gear mechanism, as its not the hardest thing in the world to fab. Perhaps something for if and when I get really annoyed with it.

A short shifter like you find on eBay and the like don't really shorten the throw much, just the height of the gear ****. You'll see a small improvement, but you'll also have to move your hand further to change gear, and if you're one to drive in anger, I doubt thats an option.

If you want to have a look at the shifting mechanism though, see below

edit: Okay, this isn't quite the newage. I can't find the 'right' one, but you get the idea. Its very similar.

Call Alyn at ASperformance and order his uprated shifter bush kit.
Add in a short shifter and it'll be transformed.

Did mine all in for £70. Bushes were £50 from Alyn and got an ebay shifter for a score.
