2005 SUBARU STI RUNNING COST AS A WEEKEND CAR?
hi guys new memeber here although been watching this forum in the past lol. i want to know the running cost of this car as a week end car i use to own a evo 9 fq320 a year ago but i just want to know how its like to live with the my05 wide track

Pretty hard question to answer. Would depend what you done with it on weekends tbh. If you track it every weekend, its gonna cost a lot, if you drive it 1 mile, its not gonna cost much. I'd imagine roughly the same as your previous evo, assuming both were standard cars.

hi thanks for the reply it wont be tracked just road use at the week ends i always liked both cars evo and sti but just loved the sound and power delivery of the scoob felt a bit raw on the power delivery and felt like i was in control more when i drove my mates scoob... if its nearly same running cost i suppose ill go back and get a evo again always liked both and the scoob is more daily car as i hear ...

IMO the Subaru will be a cheaper car to run....... potentially. Boxes, clutch and diffs are solid..... you also don't have an AYC system to worry about.

hi i also hear the power delivery can feel a bit raw and feel faster on a scoob... and yes i no what you mean about the ayc on the evo had my one refurbished at cost of £650 then the 4500 miles service came to often lol although it was not much but felt like a head ache too often things needed done to it... and is the scoob good for 400/400 if done with the right parts i no the evo wont take much to do to get it there

hi planning on a 2005 uk would also consider the jdm version is there a insurance difference between the two? if i was to modify the car i was just aiming for safe 400/400 with all the good quality parts cheers

yeah definetly mate its going to be a long read and research between these two but even a long search for right car im after a nice low miles under 35k miles if its still possible to get hold of

for a jdm they hold a premium dude, i picked up my05 sti with 45k on the clock full history etc for 7300 so there is bargains to be had good luck with your search! As you probally know its a big gamble buying performance vehicles

yeah i think i will be looking out for private sales aswell should be less then traders and a bit more to negotiate in my past experience well hopefully something pops up anytime soon

I just had a service at 70,000 in my 2005 STI and it was £180 including the MOT.
Tax for a 2005 is in the £270 bracket.
I get 240 miles to 55 litres of fuel (a tank is 60 litres), unless I'm thrashing her then I get 200 miles to a tank.
I made sure I bought a car which had the cam belt change recently done as that can be expensive.
My power steering belt was going so had that, alternator belt and bushings replaced by main dealer for £150ish.
I have had the car for 9 months now so hopefully that gives you an idea of costs.
On top of that factor in the usual items that we have to buy like discs, pads, tyres etc, and pointless stuff that we buy our cars anyway like bonnet struts, rally mudflaps, trips to the rolling road etc.

I know it is your choice, but I wouldn't worry too much about a very low mileage. I would rather a car that has been used, run, serviced and maintained, the rubber components kept in good shape and replaced regularly, rather than a vehicle which has been left to stand for weeks or months at a time.
I know it is possibly a spurious example, but there is a well known Ferrari 456 that was for sale until recently - it had almost delivery miles on it but owners and enthusiasts wouldn't touch it due to it being under used. It took 3 years to sell, in their view it was actually exposed to excessive long term maintenance due to it being under used for the first 10+ years of it's life.
In other words, number one consideration is a pucker quality car, not a low mileage car.
