Right chaps I don't want any arguments or greif from this mail, just honest opions :

Over the years I have used many polishing products during the frantic polishing of many RS Fords to near Concours standards of preparation.

Some are just gimmics whereas others such as Autoglym Super Resin, Autoglym Perfectionist, Mer and Mother's Carnuba wax all have their plus and minus points.

So if any of u have used any of the above and now use Waxwizard please provide me with your views.

If you havn't used any of the above but used point and squirt type polish, then don't bother, your in a different league (Oohh nasty !!!).

 

Autoglym Super resin : leaves white residue on my black plastic

WaxWizard Merlin wax : doesn't

Easy decision

Plus the merlin wax gives a far superior finish, however that may or may not be down to the fact I used the Waxwizard deep cleanse before waxing.

Its probably similar to the Mothers.

Not used it yet (Im waiting till I run out o Autoglym), but seen the finish on cars that have.... awesome.

 

yep - no residue from Wax Wizard. The clay bar thing is a magical bar that makes your car look like it has been resprayed. I still use Autoglym glass cleaner inside and out, and Mer for bits and pieces. (As a bottle of Mer lasts for about 10 years I haven't used all the Wax wizard products, but i would imagine that there is a product for everything. The ones I have used have been excellent)

 

Tried both autoglim and wax wizard on the car.

Have to confess that WW with the cleanse is the dogs..........

 

Wax Wizard gets my vote

 

Wax Wizard every time. It really is superb and well worth the cash, time and effort.

I have been impressed by the results with Mer but have been put off recently as I have heard that it should not be used more than once or twice a year as it contains abrasivcs. It this true?

 

I have used Zymol products for the last 18months and can say the car has never shined like this before. Plus the flies just wipe off in summer.

WW is the best I've used. The initial effort doing the cleanse and wax is well worth it. The car is very easy to keep clean - water beads off it and you can often get away with just using a hose to clean the car very quickly and it still looks great

Wouldn't use anything else now.

For the best finish: Zymol, no contest.
For speed: Autoglym, as to do the Zymol treatment properly, it takes me best part of a morning or afternoon (but if I got up to Marks speed of application, it would be close )

WoW too time consuming? you've got to be joking Autoglym resin (like most polishes) takes an hour to get the whole car to a good shine - then another 20-30 mins to get rid of the white dust residue WoW takes 30 minutes tops, and no residue - and a better finish

Is it Zymol OR WoW you used? WoW used to sell Zymol, but his own products (Merlin wax etc) are far superior

If you (or anyone) really think Autoglym is better, I still have a big bottle of Autoglym Super Resin Polish you can have


Don't forget, polish strips your car to its bare paint/lacquer to get a shine, Wax gives it a protective coating, and shines it further You should ALWAYS use wax after an abrasive polish like MER.

GaryC - It was Zymol I used, and I don't think autoglym gives better results if the time is taken to do the job properly (my father's car is testament to that). Following the Zymol instructions to the letter just seemed very time consuming (wash, then the brown stuff to strip off remaining crap from the paint, then the wax olish applied small sections at a time, left, then brushed one direction only), and even though I followed them (to what I thought was) the letter, it seemed all too easy to get smudgy marks.

From your recommendation, I'll give WW a try when my bottle of super resin polish is empty

It sounds as though you applied to much wax hence the smudges. Also it may have been due to the fact that the zymol stuff is temperature and humidity dependent...you need a dry day and with an outside ambient temp of around 12'C or warmer. However practice makes perfect and for me to wax a car using a zymol wax takes around 30 to 40 mins depending on size and no smudges.

I produced last year a Liquid Carnauba wax that is virtually fool proof and the best it its cheap...under £15 for 1/2ltre. Wipe on to say an area the size of a wing and then light but gently buff..no residue, no hard rubbing etc. I look forward to when u finish the product u are currently using.

WoW is excellent.

Like most things in life a little bit of effort is required, but I would say it (Merlin Wax) is still easier/quicker to apply than Autoglym resin. Even with the cleanse step beforehand.

Plus it lasts a long time!

Sure I have heard of this product and have some of myself.

I have developed my own as a result of research into what people want...something cheap, easy and with good results.

Mine is based on whats called long chain polymers and aslo contains very mild emulsifying agents that will clean away minor dirt. One applys the product to all glass bar front windscreen, wheels, all light lenses both front and rear and all numberplates. Then its simply but gently buff to an awesome gloss with the paint feeling so veryyy soft and smooth.

One can go a stage further as I DO WHEN DETAILING CARS IS THAT U CAN APPLY WAX for additional gloss and protection. This is purely optional.

Normal reapplication of the acrylic sealant is recommended at least every six to eight weeks to maintain gloss and protection. However increased frewquency will provide more gloss and protection especially for summer months in the battle against bug splatter.

The use of my non abrasive cleanse prior to the initial application is recommended to remove the ingrained dirt. As an alternative the use of the clay bar kit is thoroughly recommended as this process is far far quicker...20 mins for the car and wheels. The clay kit will last for around 5 years and is kept to remove tar spots etc from the bodywork (a particular subaru or 4wd problem) and also for removing ingrained brake dust from the laqyuer on your alloy wheels.

I bought the Subaru starter kit a couple of weeks ago and spent most of Goof Friday doing 'the works'. Mark was more than helpful and the car looked simply stunning.

I can only echo most of the comments above - ie - that WW is superior in every way.

Heck, Mark U even swapped out my last batch of merlin wax for a different batch because I preferred the earlier formulation - foc - fantastic customer service - so rare these days.

oh, and WW products smell far funkier - who needs 'lush'?

WW gets my vote everytime. Got a WRX last year for £7K, but body work was very dull and marked. Spent 2 hours doing the biz with the kit I got after talking to Mark Underwood and the finish was amazing (smell nice too ) It's a black car which are the worst to get looking good without streaking and WW did it proud. If you e-mail Mark, he may sort you out a discount as well, at least he did for me
