Default Arrreggggg. Help.

After pick up car yesterday. 200 miles of no problem driving apart from hesitation. Went out this morning drove 5 mile. As I stopped cel was flashing. Turned car off. Started it against and it would not start. Then there was a clunk and engine stopped turning over. Tried again. It sort of started and huge clouds of thick white smoke. Dare not try it again.

Have I melted a piston?

White smoke usually means turbo, sorry to hear that it's playing up already.

If it is the turbo I think it's a td04 and they are cheap as chips.

It's a nightmare mate.

Would the turbo stop the engine turning over.

It is. But I certainly don't need "I told you so" lol. Any ways I think that the idle control valve seal is knackered and split. That would cause this sort of problem I think

Sounds like it Matty, judging by what was posted in that thread about it feeling underpowered and hesitating a bit. It's crap when this sort of thing happens. I know it was cheap but I don't believe in being bad luck on the way home from buying, these things are known about IMO.

Hope it's not too bad for the OP.

The guy selling it was dishonest from the start. All that crap about not knowing it was a write off, yea ok.....my shout of a grand was more than a good price. Especially given the fact it was missfireing, guessing he forgot to state that in the ad.....

Hope its nothing serious but the clouds of smoke don't sound good. You need to get it to a subaru specialist so they can run their hands through it. I wouldn't be driving it either chap. Really hope it all turns out well and not too big of a problem.

Good news peeps. The idle valve seal was ruined and not seated right. Water causing the smoke. Touch wood all sorted for now. And no more hesitation.
