Default Subaru parts prices - outrageous

My wife has a Tribeca (ugly 7 seater SUV for those that don't know) and over the last few weeks has been losing coolant. I eventually found the time to investigate it and on removing the plastic engine under tray, I found a metal pipe just below the timing chain cover which was heavily corroded. I scraped a particularly corroded area with a screw driver and immediately revealed a jet of coolant. I later learned that this is an oil cooler pipe. It measures 20mm by 30 cm and has a couple of small brackets which fix it to the engine. So it's just a pipe and presumably based on the degree of corrosion, made of steel.

Phoned dealer for price. Guess how much.... £150 + vat!!!!

Decided not to pay that and have ordered aluminium alloy pipe off ebay (with swaged ends to help stop attached rubber pipes from sliding off) for £4.50 incl delivery.

No wonder Subaru is losing business in the UK.

D.

Much as it has ever been.
From early UK genuine imports at £22,000 with up to a seven month waiting list, when hotter, better specced cars were selling in japan for £17,000, to parts prices.

Even now, the Impreza is dead in the UK due to IM and Subaru greed. (and the hatch, of course)

You could get a USA STi for the same price in dollars as we pay in pounds, so about 70% of the price.

The lunacy of such a pricing strategy is breathtaking. No wonder aftermarket companies are thriving whilst Subaru is in the doldrums. A more coherent and sensible pricing structure may have helped stave off the demise.

I had my Impreza fail an MOT lat year due to the passenger side headlight being out of alignment. On closer inspection the adjuster was broke. Rang Subaru and got quoted £356 + Vat for a new headlight. (That's one NOT a pair!).

Needless to say I told them to do one and fabricated a new adjuster and had it fitted for less than £80.

Robbing toe-rags!

I priced up a rear fog light switch on a hawk. Dealer quoted me £133 + vat found one in the local scrappy for £5. Didn't need it in the end so if anyone wants it £85 to you. come on that's a bargain

It goes on and on, doesn't it?

I know of one dealer who dumped the franchise because he was going to have to redecorate the whole place in the new corporate image. He told them to do one.

Greed and no idea of how to run a business. Talk about killing the goose that laid the golden egg.
