To P or not to P!

Depends what you want from a car, overall they are one of the most loved scoobys,
Fairly quick but remember they are all getting old, so look into getting suspension re freshed. You pay more as its less common than the sti/wrx uk2000s. Value or money a nice classic sti will give it a fare fun for its money. There is another owners clubbed aimed purely at p1 owners

Regret selling mine. The head gasket went on it, but, after the initial payout, I wasn't bothered about I loved the car so much. I went from the P1 to a hawk sti.....regretted it big time

Thank you. I am driving the wife insane on about buying one. I do like them very much, only be used on occasions. I gave looked in to RB5's, sti's, uk300 etc, and my favourite is the p1. I guess it's all a bit if risk buying a used car, but any info I get back is much appreciated.

As with most imports rot is the biggest problem with them - rear arches and up inside the rear turrets like to rust away. The rot inside the rear turrets is quite hard to spot with the struts fitted, you can sometimes feel it through the inner wing from the boot.
Saying this from experience of a local low mileage P1 that has has to be repaired in this area.

Well I'm in the same position as you at the moment ant, I'm looking at buying a standard P1 with similar budget, my mean issue is finding a good well cared for rust free car (needle in a haystack) I think.
The 1 bit of advice I would give you is, take your time and don't rush into buying the first car you see unless your sure its a good 1. Be prepared for a long wait.
I think for 8k you should get a good car for that as that seems to be the rough price good P1s sell for these days with the exception of a few cars.

This one ends in a few hours if anyones interested http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2612111384...=p5197.c0.m619 if the mileage/history is genuine its pretty cheap. Not sure why its had an engine rebuild at that mileage tho?

The car is nothing to do with me, just saw it on Ebay earlier while browsing. If its advertised twice id give it a miss personally.. Seems a bit dodgy to me Just had a look again on Ebay and its being sold by a dealer so I guess the Classified price is like a buy it now price as apposed to the auction listing, either way they shouldn't be doing that on Ebay and I doubt if the car sells for £5400 they would honour that sale!!

Similar but the 2 door version. It's essentially the Japanese version of the P1, just with better equipment. Some (fairys) think its too hard for uk roads but I think it's perfect and the close ratio box gives some pretty serious acceleration. Also the dccd allows a RWD bias which I personally prefer. The P1 front bumper does look badass though.

Here's mine so you can get an idea what they look like. Tend to be a couple of k or so cheaper than equivalent P1s.

I bought very cheap and the engine let go almost straight away. However ill still be sub 7k when it's finished and it will have a new rebuilt engine with new oil pump,Cambelt etc, a new ESL ecu, remap and a brand new uprated clutch. A good P1 would probably cost more and (probably) wont have any of the above!

My advise is if you go for a standard form P1 i would still get it mapped. The reason is that the p1 is a Type R that prodrive altered for the UK. The thing they missed out was the map. Standard form P1's still run a V5 Jap map. Simon from JGM confirmed this when i got mine mapped. Many people think... ok UK car so uk fuel is fine...WRONG! These cars still need 99Ron which is still not 100% ok.
