Tyres - advice please
#1
Hi,
I've done 13,000 miles in my MY99. I've been concerned about tramlining; posted a message or 2; seen various other threads and comments. All very interesting, but inevitably inconclusive.
There's plenty of tread left on my tyres; I've had the geometry checked etc etc.
So short of shelling out for new rubber, I thought I'd try the old favourite - rotation (tyres, not me).
Two tyre places both confirmed there's plenty of tread - and both advised against rotation!
The tyres have worn reasonably evenly, but there's clearly more tread on the back.
So why won't rotation help?
Yours curiously.

Alistair,
I did - and got two completly different answers. One was a vague "it's 4 wheel drive, there's no point" and the other was some gobbledegook I didn't understand about different wear rates affecting the ltd slip and causing all sorts of grief!
The reason I posted the message was because quite a few people seem to have done it, but no-one's actually said what, if any, difference it made either to tramlining or the perceived lifespan of the rubber.
Hence the request for advice.

On my origanal tires 205/50/15 were rotated all around the car. The only affect it had was to improve turn in and reduce rear end grip, aslong as you keep that in mind there's no problem. Depending on how many roundabouts you use the wear on the nearside will be more than the offside anyway.
Hope this helps
